Die vorliegende Dissertation mit dem Titel „Studien zum kaiserzeitlichen Tafelgeschirr aus der Metropolis der Lykier, Limyra (Lykien /Türkei)“ befasst sich mit der kontextuellen Auswertung des Tafelgeschirrs innerhalb der Fundkeramik aus zwei Grabungen, die in der West- und Nordstadt Limyras durchgeführt wurden. Die Vorlage der beiden geschlossenen Fundkomplexe aus diesen Grabungen erlaubt erstmals eine Untersuchung von Kontexten in Limyra, die einen zeitlichen Rahmen von der Ende des 1. Jhs. v./ Anfang des 1. Jhs. n. bis zum 2. Viertel des 3. Jhs. umfassen. Nach einem einleitenden Kapitel (Kapitel I) zur Zielsetzung, Methodik und zum Forschungstand wird im Kapitel II historischer und archäologischer Hintergrund sowie Denkmalbestand und Fundspektrum Limyras im Späthellenismus und in der Kaiserzeit zusammenfassend dargelegt. Vor der Vorlage und der Analyse der Fundkeramik werden im Kapitel III die Befund- und Fundkomplexe vorgestellt und durch die kontextuelle Analysen und Fundvergesellschaftung auf ihre Datierung eingegangen. Im Anschluss daran wird das Tafelgeschirr im Kapiteln IV in zwei Hauptgruppen (Import und lokal-regionale Ware) ausgewertet. Im Kapitel V werden die Leitformen des lokal-regionalen Tafelgeschirrs vorgestellt und durch die kontextuellen und typologischen Analysen wird ein Gerüst für die Typochronolgie dieser Ware gebaut. Im letzten Kapitel (Kapitel VI) werden anhand des Materials die diachronische Zusammenstellung der Importware vorgestellt und auf die Handelsrouten eingegangen. Weiters werden in diesem Kapitel die aus der Auswertung des keramischen Fundmaterials gewonnenen Ergebnisse in verkehrsgeographischen und wirtschaftlichen sowie gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Fragestellungen eingebettet und das Material wird unter diesen Aspekten analysiert.

The dissertation with the title "Research on the Imperial period Tableware from the Lycian Metropolis of Limyra (Lycia, Turkey)"deals with the contextual evaluation of table ware within the ceramic assemblages from two excavations carried out in the area of the West- and North-city of Limyra. The presentation of the two cohesive find complexes from these excavations represents for the first time in Limyra an analysis of contexts which encompass a chronological timeframe from the end of the 1st century B.C. and the beginning of 1st century A.D until the second quarter of the 3rd century A.D. Following an introductory chapter (Chapter I) on the aims, methodology, and state of research, in Chapter II the historical and archaeological background, as well as the inventory of monuments and the spectrum of finds from Limyra in the late Hellenistic and Imperial periods, are presented in comprehensive fashion. Before the presentation and the analysis of the ceramic assemblage, in Chapter III the findings and find-complexes are introduced, and their chronology is approached by means of the contextual analysis and the association of finds. Subsequently, in Chapter IV the tablewares are evaluated in two main groups (imported wares, and local-regional wares). In Chapter V the leading forms of the local-regional tablewares are introduced, and via the contextual and typological analysis, a framework for the typo-chronology of these wares is constructed. In the final chapter (Chapter VI), the diachronic compilation of the imported wares is introduced, and the trade routes are discussed. Furthermore, in this chapter the results obtained from the evaluation of the ceramic assemblage are embedded in questions regarding transport geography and economic as well as social and cultural issues, and the material will be analysed according to these aspects.
