Im Zuge dieser Diplomarbeit wurde eine GIS-Webapplikation erstellt, Schritt für Schritt dokumentiert und zur optimalen Nachvollziehbarkeit mit kartographischen Basisinformationen unterlegt.
Das vorrangige Ziel dieser Applikation ist es, dem kartographischen Neuling einen Überblick über verschiedene Kartennetzentwürfe zu vermitteln. Der Nutzer kann aus über 60 Kartennetzentwürfen der Erd- und Europaabbildungen wählen und diese mittels klassischer GIS-Funktionen analysieren. Im Detail ist es dem Nutzer möglich, Layer ein- und auszublenden, klassische Navigationswerkzeuge eines online-basierten geographischen Informationssystems (Zoom-In, Zoom-Out, Pan-Funktion, Maßstabsbalken, graphischer Maßstab) zu verwenden und Popup-Fenster (z.B. Informations- und Legendenfenster) zu aktivieren. Es wurde außerdem darauf geachtet, dass das Interface intuitiv aufgebaut ist, sodass die Anwendung ohne komplexe Lernvorgänge verwendet werden kann. Des Weiteren wurden die Interaktionen und Funktionen so konzipiert, dass sie sich gegenseitig nicht blockieren und reibungslos in kurzen Rechenzeiten abgeschlossen werden können.
Die Grundkarte, deren verwendete Daten online kostenlos bezogen werden, bekommt durch ein Overlay und die Schummerung einen plastischen Effekt und wirkt durch die Wahl entsprechender Ebenen optisch anspruchsvoll auf den Nutzer. Darüber hinaus visualisieren die Tissotschen Indikatrizen dem Anwender die entsprechenden Verzerrungen.
Der ArcGIS Server veröffentlicht die Map-Dokumente und über das SDK Flex von Adobe wird das Interface mittels .mxml und ActionScript entwickelt. Der Prototyp der GIS-Webapplikation (Version 1.0) wird in weiterer Folge über einen GIS Server der Universität Wien zum Laufen gebracht werden und somit demnächst über das Internet für jeden Nutzer zugänglich sein. Für die fehlerfreie Nutzung benötigt der Anwender lediglich einen nicht zu alten Computer mit einem installierten Webbrowser (aktuellere Version ist vorteilhaft), das entsprechende Adobe Flash Player Plug-In und einen Internetzugang.
Der Arbeit wird eine Daten-CD beigefügt, die die gesmaten Daten beinhaltet.

In the course of this diploma thesis a GIS-webapplication was developed. For full comprehension of this exposition every step was documented and all the necessary cartographic facts were added.
The main objective of this application is to provide cartographic beginners with an over-view of different map projections. More than 60 different map projections of Europe and the whole world can be chosen and analysed for this purpose. More precisely, the user is able to fade layers in and out, use common navigational tools of an online-based geographic information system (like zoom-in, zoom-out, pan, scale bar, graphic scale) and activate popup-windows (e.g. information window, legend window). Moreover, the interface can be used without extensive previous knowledge and the interactions do not overlay and are terminated in short time.
The map behind the application, which uses free online spatial data, seems plastically because of a specific overlay and hill shade and professional due to different vector layers. Furthermore, Tissot’s indicatrix helps the user to understand the equidistant, equivalent and the conformal distortion.
The ArcGIS Server is responsible for the publication of the map service and Adobe Flex SDK creates the interface with .mxml and actionscript. The prototype of the application will run on a GIS Server of the University of Vienna and will be available for the users through the internet. The main conditions for smooth usage are an installed web browser, the adobe flash player plug-in and internet access.
