Die Rolle von Mikrokrediten, von einem anfangs eher belächelten Projekt hin zu einem weit verbreiteten und viel beachteten Entwicklungsinstrument, hat sich gemeinsam mit den vorherrschenden Paradigmen zu Armutsbekämpfung und Entwicklung in den letzten Jahrzehnten verändert. Diese Arbeit konzentriert sich auf den Stellenwert von Mikrokrediten in der internationalen EZA, für die stellvertretend die Vereinten Nationen (UN) herangezogen werden. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Frage zu klären, inwieweit die Darstellung der Mikrokredite durch die internationale EZA zu diesem positiven Bild der Mikrokredite als Instrument zum Erreichen entwicklungspolitischer Zielsetzungen beiträgt. Die Analyse der Darstellung der Mikrokredite durch die Institutionen der internationalen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit erfolgt mittels der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring. Danach versucht eine kritische Betrachtung zu untersuchen, inwieweit Mikrokredite die ihnen zugesprochenen Beiträge erfüllen.

The role of microcredit as a derided project to a powerful attained tool of development has changed during the last decades.
This thesis is concerned with the status of microcredit and its programs in the international development assistance represented by the United Nations. The objective of this thesis is to answer the question to what extent the outline of microcredits in institutions and sub-organizations of the United Nations adds to that positive image of microcredit as a tool for development. Furthermore this thesis wants to point out to what extent microcredits and its effects can meet this positive image and satisfy the hopes set.
The analysis of the status of microcredit pursued by the international development assistance is stated through the qualitative content analysis by Mayring.
The results of the analysis show that the United Nations draw a very positive image of microcredit as a means for development. Microcredit lending is claimed to reduce poverty through reduction of uncertainty and increase of income, to improve the situation of women through empowerment and the equation of gender-differences. Furthermore it is stated that microcredit fosters education, health, diffusion of new technologies and agricultural productivity. Problems caused by microcredit are barely mentioned.
The thesis brings into question this outlines of microcredit and shows that there is a broad gap between the positive image of microcredits caused by the United Nations and the argumentation of critics.
