Politische Strategie hat in den letzten Jahren innerhalb der Politikwissenschaft zunehmend Eingang gefunden. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit wird das Phänomen „politische Strategie“ aus einer demokratietheoretischen Perspektive beleuchtet. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, Erkenntnisse zum Verhältnis von Strategie und Demokratie zu gewinnen. Hierzu werden mögliche Chancen und Grenzen einer Demokratisierung von Strategie erörtert. Die anschließende empirische Untersuchung analysiert das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen der FTI- Strategie der österreichischen Bundesregierung und demokratischen Ansprüchen. Das Ergebnis der empirischen Studie zeigt, dass einzelne Teile des Strategiebildungsprozesses demokratischen Ansprüchen genüge tragen können. Ob Strategien demokratieverträglich sind, hängt insbesondere von demokratischen Anforderungen und der institutionellen Ausgestaltung des Strategieprozesses ab.

In recent years political strategy has taken on greater significance within the field of political science. Of the literature examined the phenomenon of “political strategy” is regarded from the view of democracy theory. The purpose of the thesis is to gain insights into the nature of the relationship between strategy and democracy. Therefore the potential opportunities and limitations of democratization are discussed. The following empirical study analyses the stress ratio between the FTI- strategy structure of the Austrian government and democratic claims. The results of the study show that part of the strategy-building process is in accordance with democratic requirements. Whether these strategies are compatible in practice depends strongly on the democratic requirements and on the institutional arrangement of the strategy process.
