Im Rahmen der Arbeit wurde das costaricanische Konzept Turismo Rural Comunitario für die deutschsprachige Literatur zugänglich gemacht. Dabei wurde nicht nur eine weitere nachhaltige Tourismusform präsentiert, sondern diese auch auf unterschiedliche Weise hinterfragt und die Sinnhaftigkeit anhand des TRC-Projekts COOPECAMPESINOS überprüft.
Das costaricanische TRC-Konzept warf Fragen zu einer Neudefinition von Comunidad, Partizipation und ländlicher Entwicklung auf, die einen wichtigen Erkenntnisgewinn brachten. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat zu dem Ergebnis geführt, dass es für Gemeinschaftsprojekte dieser Art relevant ist, in der Zusammenarbeit einen gemeinsamen Sinn zu sehen, anstatt sich über Raum, Interessen oder Merkmale zusammengehörig zu fühlen. Auch Partizipation verlangt in diesem Zusammenhang eine andere Definition, weil sie schon entstehen sollte, bevor das Projekt aufgebaut wird, um überhaupt einen gemeinsamen Sinn in der Zusammenarbeit zu sehen. Weiters sind die Projekte weder gänzlich auf Eigeninitiative noch gänzlich auf externe Intervention von Organisationen zurückzuführen. Das bestätigt, dass Partizipation zum Teil im sozialen Zusammenleben verankert ist, wobei eine zusätzliche Förderung durch externe Organisationen zu begrüßen ist.

Within the context of this thesis the Costa Rican concept of Turismo Rural Comunitario (TRC; Rural Community Tourism) is made available to the German literature. It is not just another form of sustainable tourism that has been presented thereby, but it was also questioned in different ways and its usefulness was examined on the basis of the TRC project COOPECAMPESINOS.
The Costa Rican TRC concept gave rise to questions regarding a redefinition of community, participation and rural development, which brought a significant gain in knowledge. The thesis at hand has led to the conclusion that it is relevant to community projects of this kind to see a common meaning in the cooperation instead of having a sense of belonging through space, interests or characteristics. Participation also requires a different definition in this context because it should already occur before the project is build up in order to even see a common meaning in the cooperation. Furthermore, the projects are neither entirely attributed to their own initiative nor to external intervention of organizations. This confirms that participation is partially rooted in social coexistence, although additional stimulation by external organizations is to be welcomed.
