Die vorliegende Arbeit mit der Forschungsfrage „Sind kulturelle Vereine und freie Theater Teil und Akteure der Zivilgesellschaft? am Beispiel InterACTs, der Werksatt für Theater und Soziokultur und dem Theater der Unterdrückten Wien“ behandelt einführend auf theoretischer Basis das Konzept der Zivilgesellschaft. Es geht um die Fragen nach der Definition, der historischen Entwicklung, ihren Funktionen, Räumen und AkteurInnen. Darauf folgen Fragen nach ihren Einfluss- und Partizipationsmöglichkeiten, sowie nach ihrer politischen Handlungsfähigkeit.
Der zweite Teil beschäftigt sich mit der Lage der österreichischen Zivilgesellschaft, dem Kulturverständnis, stellt die beiden behandelten Vereine – das InterACT und das TdU Wien – vor und geht auf das Medium Theater als politisches Werkzeug ein.
Im dritten Teil der Arbeit werden die qualitativen leitfadenorientierten problemfokussierten ExpertInneninterviews ausgewertet und auf das vorhergehende, theoretische Konzept angewendet. Die Ergebnisse werden nach den Kategorien Einordnung, Autonomie, Funktionen, Akteure, Verortung, Einflussnahme und Partizipation, politisches Handeln und politische Handlungsfähigkeit dargelegt.

The main question of this diploma thesis is “Are cultural and free theatres part and players in the civil society? based on the example of InterACT and the Theatre of the Oppressed”.
The concept of the civil society and questions concerning the definition, the history, its places and players are main themes of the thesis, followed by questions concerning the possibility of participation, influences and political actionability.
The second part deals with the Austrian civil society, cultural understanding, presents both associations InterACT and the Theatre of the Oppressed and mentions the medium theatre as a political tool.
In the third part the qualitative guide oriented problem focused expert interviews are interpreted and applied to the theoretical concept. The results are demonstrated on the following categories: classification, autonomy, functions, players, placement, influence and participation, political acting and political actionability.
