Türkische MigrantInnen in Österreich wurden in den vergangenen Jahren häufig Opfer von Stereotypisierungen. Sie werden als ‚Integrationsverweigerer’ dargestellt und ihnen wird unterstellt, sich nicht an die so genannte Mehrheitsgesellschaft anpassen zu wollen. Zugleich werden sie dabei stets als homogene Gruppe konstruiert, Unterschiede ausgeblendet.
Die vorliegende Arbeit hat zum Ziel, die Auswirkungen der Stereotypisierung und Ausgrenzung auf die Betroffenen zu untersuchen. Zentral dabei ist die Perspektive der MigrantInnengruppe auf rassistische Diskurse seitens der Mehrheitsgesellschaft. Insbesondere sollen die Fragen behandelt werden: Was ist kulturelle Identität und welche Bedeutung erhält sie für MigrantInnen im Kontext rassistischer Ressentiments? Welche möglichen Auswirkungen ergeben sich weiters für die sozioökonomische Situation von ‘TürkInnen’ in Österreich und welche Strategien gegen Rassismus und Ausgrenzung werden von den MigrantInnen entwickelt? Anhand theoretischer Ansätze der postkolonialen Theorie und Theorien über Rassismus sowie einer Analyse aktueller Diskurse, werden diese Fragen erörtert.

Over the past few years, Turkish migrants in Austria have often been victims of stereotyping and exclutions. The are represented as ‚resisters to integration’ and accused of not having the will to adapt or assimilate to the Austrian majority. At the same time they are constructed as a homogenous group, distinctions are blanked out.
The primary objective of this work is to analyse the impact of stereotyping and exclution on the persons concerned. Therefore, I want to focus on the perspective of the migrants on racist discourses by the majority. In particular, I would like to discuss the following questions: What does cultural identity mean to migrants in the context of rasist resentments? Which possible impact to they furthermore have on their socio-economic situation and what strategies do the migrants develop against racism and exclution? These questions I want to discuss based on postcolonial theories and theories about racism, as well as the analysis of current discourses on the subject.
