Die vorliegende Arbeit beschreibt die Entwicklung der Zitierpraxis in wissenschaftlichen Journalen des Fachgebietes Chemie im Zeitraum von 1896 bis 2004. Für den gleichen Zeitabschnitt wird die Rolle der Bibliothek in den Bereichen Forschungsdokumentation und Literatur- und Informationsversorgung der Mitarbeiter/innen der chemischen Institute / Departments der Universität Wien untersucht.
Die Geschichte der Fakultät wird kurz dargestellt, der näher betrachtete historische Zeitraum wird in drei fünfjährige Abschnitte gegliedert. Der Abstand zwischen den Abschnitten beträgt jeweils etwa fünfzig Jahre.
Durch die Auswertung der Publikationen ausgewählter Forscher/innen wird gezeigt, dass die Bibliothek die Arbeiten aus den Instituten zu 50,90% → 85,24% →84,49% dokumentiert. Die in diesen Publikationen enthaltenen Zitate werden analysiert und bilden so die Informations- und Literaturversorgung ab. In den gleichen Zeitabschnitten versorgte die Bibliothek die Forscher/innen der Institute zu 91,64% → 75,80% → 78,57% mit relevanter Zeitschriftenliteratur. Detaillierte Ergebnisse sind in Übersichtstabellen zusammengestellt. Besondere Details der Ergebnisse wie
• die Entwicklung und Vergleichbarkeit der Zitate,
• die Verwendung von Sekundärliteratur,
• die Bedeutung von Selbstzitaten,
• die Bedeutung der Monatshefte für Chemie,
• der Vergleich von den Datenbanken SciFinder-Chemical Abstracts und ISI Web of Science,
• sowie die Ergebnisse der Umfrage werden diskutiert.
Tabellen der Datenauswertung und der Fragebogen der Umfrage sind im Anhang angefügt.

This master thesis describes the development of quotation practices in scientific journals of the field of chemistry in the period from 1896 to 2004. For the same time period, the role of the library is examined. The focus lies on research documentation of, and literature and information supply for the scientists of the chemical institutes / departments of the University of Vienna.
The thesis starts with a short overview of the history of the faculty. The historical period investigated in detail is divided in three five-year sections, with intervals of about fifty years between each of them.
The analysis of the publications of selected researchers shows that the works from the institutes were documented by the library in percentages of 50.90%, 85.24% and 84.49% respectively. The quotations contained in these publications are analyzed, thus showing the supply of information and literature. The library was supplying the researchers of the institutes to 91.64%, 75.80% and 78.57% percent with relevant scientific journals during the respective time periods. The exact values of the results are presented in tables followed by special details of the results, in particular on
• the development and comparability of the quotations,
• the use of secondary literature,
• the impact of self quotations,
• the role of the Monatshefte für Chemie,
• the comparison of the data bases SciFinder Chemical Abstracts and ISI Web of Science,
• as well as the results of the survey.
