Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Repräsentation zweier nationalistischer Organisationen während des Zweiten Weltkrieges in der Gedächtnispolitik der Ukraine. Die Organisation Ukrainischer Nationalisten (OUN) und deren militärischer Arm die Ukrainische Aufstandsarmee (UPA) sind Hauptbestandteil der gedächtnispolitischen Debatten der Ukraine nach der Orangen Revolution. Besonders seit dem politischen Machtwechsel zu einem als pro-westlich geltenden Präsidenten Viktor Juščenko wird deren rechtliche und moralische Rehabilitierung kontrovers diskutiert. Maßgeblicher Einflussfaktor bei der Auseinandersetzung ist die ideologische Teilung des Landes in einen pro-europäischen Westen und einen pro-russischen Osten. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zu untersuchen ob die beiden Organisationen im kollektiven Gedächtnis der Ukraine repräsentiert sind oder ob versucht wird dieses Ergebnis von oben herab zu implementieren. Teil der Problematik eines gesamtukrainischen kollektiven Gedächtnisses ist hierbei die Selbstdefinition als Opfer, die eine konsolidierte Gedächtnispolitik und Geschichtswissenschaft unmöglich macht.

This thesis deals with the representation of two nationalist organisations during the Second World War in the politics of memory in the Ukraine. After the Orange Revolution the Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and their military branch, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), became an essential part of the political debates concerning the collective memory of the Ukraine. Their moral and legal rehabilitation is the subject of controversial discussions, especially following the shift of power to President Viktor Juščenko, who is considered to be pro-western. A strong influencing factor in the dispute is the ideological separation of the country into a pro-European West and a pro-Russian East. The aim of this thesis is to explore whether, and how, the two organisations are represented in the nation’s collective memory or if there have been attempts to influence this outcome from above. An integral part of the problem of an all-Ukrainian collective memory is their self-designation as victims, thereby making a consolidation of the politics of memory and of history impossible.
