Virtuelle soziale Netzwerkseiten sind dank der Plattform Facebook derzeit medial in aller
Munde. Der Trend sich virtuell zu vernetzen erregte nicht zuletzt auch deshalb das
Interesse innerhalb der „Scientific Community“ und die Auseinandersetzung mit diesem
Themengebiet spiegelt sich in Begrifflichkeiten wie Web 2.0 und Social Web wider. Die
Reflexion bezüglich des virtuellen Sozialraumes als gesellschaftlicher Handlungs- und
Kommunikationsraum blieb bisher innerhalb der Sozialen Arbeit allerdings im
Wesentlichen aus. Diese Arbeit versucht den virtuellen Raum als Sozialraum
anschlussfähig an den Diskurs der Sozialraumorientierung innerhalb der Sozialen Arbeit
zu machen und durch ein qualitativ- empirisches Forschungsdesign, in Form von
proplemzentrierten Interviews, das „Problemfeld“ virtueller Sozialraum anhand des
Social Network Facebook für die Soziale Arbeit zu erschließen. Wie werden diese
virtuellen Sozialräume subjektiv erlebt, welchen Stellenwert haben sie im
Kommunikationsrepertoir und welche gesellschaftliche Relevanz lässt sich durch die
Partizipation ableiten? Es zeigt sich, dass der virtuelle Raum als Kommunikations- und
Handlungsraum spezifische Herausforderungen für die Soziale Arbeit bietet, die im Sinne
des Digital Divide im Spannungsfeld zwischen Inklusion, Exklusion und sozialer
Partizipation verortet werden können.

Due to Facebook virtual, social platforms are actually subject of widespread medial
discussions. Not least because of that fact the scientific community became interested in
the movement of virtual networking. The examination of this issue finds its visible
expression in concepts such as Web 2.0 and Social Web. Within social casework the
analysis of the virtual social area as a corporative space of communication and activity is
essentially missing. This diploma thesis tries to affiliate the virtual space as a social area
to the discourse of social area orientation inside of social casework. The phenomenon of a
virtual social area is made accessible as a field of research for social casework by a
qualitative-empirical research design in terms of problem centered interviews and by
using the example of the social network Facebook. Questions are raised concerning the
subjective experience of virtual social areas, their significance within the repertoire of
communication and the kind of social relevance, which may be derivable by the fact of 167
participation. It is shown that the virtual space as an area of communication and activity
provides specific challenges to social casework, which are, in terms of a digital divide, located in an area of conflict between inclusion, exclusion and participation.
