Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt sich die Aufgabe die Entwicklungschritte nachzuzeichnen die im Hinblick auf die Etablierung einer Gemeinsamen Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik der Europäischen Union getätigt wurden. Besonderes Augenmerk wird hierbei auf die Strukturen, die rechtliche Basis sowie die Institutionen der GSVP nach dem Vertrag von Lissabon gelegt. In diesem Zusammenhang wird des weitern versucht auf gewisse Teilbereiche die ebendiese GSVP tangieren einzugehen. Dies betrifft das Verhältnis zur NATO, sowie die Implikationen die dieser Vertrag für die Neutralen bringt, im Falle der Arbeit Österreich. Zu dem Zwecke der Nachvollziehbarkeit werden im Zuge der Arbeit verschiedene Theoriemodelle der internationalen Politik vorgestellt, sowie auch der Versuch unternommen, die Sicherheitslandschaft darzustellen, die für das Verständnis der Prozesse betreffend der GSVP wichtig ist.
Insgesamt kann diese Arbeit nur einen kleinen Teil der GSVP wiedergeben, versucht jedoch dennoch die wichtigsten Teilbereiche bzw. Den Aufbau der GSVP nach dem Vertrag von Lissabon so umfangreich wie möglich darzustellen.

The work that you find here, dear reader, deals with the Common Security and Defence Policy of the European Union. It contains a historical overview of the steps that were made towards the CSDP as well as a detailed analyse of the CSDP after the treaty of Lisbon. This includes the bodies, the structure and the missions that are taken by the European Union in the field of the CSDP. The work starts with a theoretical background and discusses the security environment that is surrounding the European Union. Concerning the CSDP after the Lisbon treaty the work also looks at some key problems. That is on the one hand the question about the bounding with the NATO and on the other hand the role of the so called “Neutral” states, in this case Austria. Last, also a view is taken at the events in Libya and the role of the CSDP in it.
With this in mind one has to say, that the CSDP is a very open theme, so the work isn’t able to cover the whole problems that can be found in the field of CSDP. Nevertheless, the work at least tries to give an overview over the most important CSDP concerning issues.
