Im Zuge dieser Diplomarbeit wird untersucht, ob sich dramaturgische und figurenbezogene Forderungen der Drehbuchtheorie des klassischen Spielfilms des europäisch-amerikanischen Kulturkreises im dokumentarischen Format der TV-Reportage wiederfinden.
Im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird einerseits auf die Gattung der Reportage eingegangen, andererseits werden die analytischen Konzepte betreffend Figuren und Dramaturgie ausgearbeitet. Dies geschieht, indem die unterschiedlichen Anforderungen an Hauptfigur, Protagonist und Held ausgeführt und weitere figurenbezogene Merkmale (Motivation, Ziel, Veränderung, Konflikt und die Rolle des Antagonisten) geklärt werden. Bezüglich der Dramaturgie wird auf das kanonische Story-Schema (Exposition, Konflikt und Auflösung) eingegangen und die Charakteristika der geforderten dramatischen Handlungspunkte (Wendepunkte, zentraler Punkt und Höhepunkt) werden erarbeitet. Ein Katalog mit insgesamt 27 Fragen wird erstellt und anschließend 17 Folgen der ORF-Reportagereihe Am Schauplatz daraufhin untersucht.
Dramaturgische und figurenbezogene Merkmale des populären Films treffen teilweise auch auf das untersuchte Format zu. Vor allem in Bezug auf die Personencharakterisierung ist dies weitgehend der Fall. Dramaturgisch wird bei den Reportagen zum Teil mit einem Aufbau, der an das kanonische Story-Schema angelehnt ist, und Handlungselementen wie zum Beispiel Wendepunkten gearbeitet. Dies scheint aber nicht zwingend notwendig bzw. schwer umsetzbar bei einem dokumentarischen Format.

The goal of this thesis is to determine whether concepts of characterization and plot construction of classic script writing manuals for European-American feature films can be found in a documentary television format.
The theoretical part of the thesis will focus on the reportage-genre and the analytical concepts regarding characters and dramaturgy. Herein the different requirements towards the main character, the protagonist and the hero are elaborated and other characteristics of them (motivation, goal, character arc, conflict and the role of the antagonist) are also addressed. Regarding dramaturgy the canonical story schema (setup, confrontation and resolution) is discussed and the characteristics of turning points are described.
In the analytical part of the thesis 17 episodes of the ORF documentary series Am Schauplatz are analyzed by means of a questionnaire resulting from the theoretical part of the thesis.
In conclusion it can be said, that characteristics of plot construction and characterization of classic feature films partially apply to the examined format. This is especially the case with regard to the attributes of the main characters. Dramaturgically the documentaries mostly work with a setup resembling the canonical story schema and sometimes action elements such as turning points show up. But this does not seem to be necessary, probably because they are difficult to realize in a documentary format.
