Die Absicht der vorliegenden Arbeit bestand darin, das Verhältnis zwischen den traditionellen, werkbezogenen Darstellungsformen in der Kunst und der künstlerischen Produktion, die den Entstehungsprozess – Konzeption, Ideenprojektion und geistige Auseinandersetzung – in den Vordergrund stellt, in den Werken der Künstlergruppe GORGONA zu untersuchen. Dabei zeigte sich in der autonomen künstlerischen Tätigkeit bereits ein reduzierter Einsatz malerischer Mittel, die sich jedoch noch am physischen und individuellen Werk orientieren und in der Gruppenaktivität an Bedeutung verlieren. GORGONA hinterfragt den traditionellen Kunstbegriff, wendet sich von der konventionellen Werkentwicklung und ästhetischen Kriterien ab und ersetzt sie durch neue künstlerische Positionen/Medien, wie Konzeption, Idee und Sprache bzw. Text. Auf diese Weise eröffnen sich neue Handlungsräume, die auch Bereiche des alltäglichen Lebens in die Kunst integrieren, wodurch institutionelle und politische Begrenzungen außer Kraft gesetzt werden. GORGONA entwickelt innovative Formen der künstlerischen Kommunikation, die als sprachliche und visuelle Repräsentationsweisen (schriftliche Aufzeichnungen, Text / Druckmedium, Fotografie) Gattungsgrenzen aufbrechen und in einen interdisziplinären und intermedialen Bezug setzen. Dies erfolgt vor allem im Anti-Magazin GORGONA, das als ein autonomes und reproduzierbares künstlerisches Medium konzipiert ist und in seiner abstrakten Gestaltung Elemente der Reproduktion, Serialität, der Selbstreflexivität und des Abwesenden als spezifische Merkmale enthält. Auf den teilweise leeren Seiten vermittelt es immaterielle Aspekte als geistigen Wert und stellt damit die BetrachterInnen vor neue Herausforderung, indem es deren aktive Interpretation bzw. eigene Reflexion voraussetzt.
GORGONAS künstlerische Intention überschreitet die Grenzen institutioneller Präsentation und Lesart und setzt die Produktion des Kunstwerks, die Rolle des Künstlers und des Rezipienten in eine neue Relation.

The present work aims to explore the relationship between traditional, work-related forms of representation in art and the artistic output in the works of the GORGONA group of artists, which emphasises the creative process, i.e. the conceptual formulation, the projection of ideas and the intellectual debate. The autonomous artistic activity itself shows that the means of painting were reduced even though they are still based on the physical and individual work and are of lesser significance in the group activity. GORGONA questions the traditional concept of art; it dissociates itself from aesthetic criteria and the conventional way in which the work of art evolves, substituting new artistic positions and media such as conceptual formulation, idea and language, and text. This opens up new areas of activity, integrating areas of everyday life into art and cancelling out institutional and political limitations. GORGONA develops innovative forms of artistic communication which break down genre limitations using linguistic and visual methods of representation (written records, text/print media, photography) and links them through an interdisciplinary and inter-media approach. This is achieved first and foremost through the Anti-Magazine GORGONA, the concept of which is based on an autonomous and reproducible artistic media and, in its abstract concept, incorporates elements of reproduction, seriality, self-reflection and absence as specific features. Through its pages, some of which are blank, it conveys immaterial aspects as a spiritual value, thus challenging the viewer by requiring his or her active interpretation and personal reflection.
GORGONA’s artistic intent steps beyond the boundaries of institutional presentation and interpretation to redefine the relationship that links the creative artistic process, the role of the artist and that of the viewer.
