Sportvereine und –verbände sind den Freiwilligenorganisationen zuzuordnen und als solche auf ehrenamtliche Mitarbeiter/innen angewiesen (Zimmer, 2006; Hartmann-Tews & Combrink, 2005). Aufgrund der wachsenden Konkurrenz durch kommerzielle Anbieter und dem daraus entstehenden Professionalisierungsdruck wird häufig von einer Krise des Ehrenamts gesprochen (Rauschenbach, 1996).

Sport clubs and sport associations are voluntary organisations and thereby relying on their honorary members (Zimmer, 2006; Hartmann-Tews & Combrink, 2005). Due to increasing business competition and therefore the necessity of a professional approach, one might speak of a crisis of the honorary office (Rauschenbach, 1996). Since the voluntary office in sports is still a masculine domain and women are only represented by 26,9%, it is all the more suprising that not the full economical potential of the honorary members is being tapped (Badelt & Hollerweger, 2001). This gender gap is even more evident regarding the leading postitions of sport organisations, where a horizontal as well as a vertical segregation can be witnessed (Dahmen, 2008; Straka, 2006; Combrink, 2004).
By applying Women's advancement and Gender Mainstreaming strategic measures have been taken to dissolve these hierarchic gender constellations, which turned out to be quite persistent. What are the reasons? Are those measure applied in the first place in local sport organisations? What are the attitudes and aspects of the protagonists to this matter? An inquiry of the funcionaries of clubs of ASVÖ Burgenland will show if and how much relevance to this issue is given to by involved persons. Furthermore it will illustrate if the problem is perceived as such in the first place and in what degree sport clubs are taking measures to counteract those developments in question.
