Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
The dissertation deals with the most systematic Russian philosopher Vladimir Solov´ev and, more specifically with the concept of eros which is connected with the last period of his life. During this “ theurgic period” Solov´ev wrote the Meaning of love which is analysed in this dissertation. Solov´ev opposes Schopenhauer who considered that the goal of eros is only reproduction. On the contrary, Solov´ev believes that eros is a state through which a person is able to overcome his egoism deeply rooted in his nature. He focused on two kinds of love – ascendent and discendent – that permits a human to connect himself with Sophia – a divine wisdom, a perfect creation and point of connection between Mankind and God. Solov´ev gave his other work the same title, which deals with this dissertation and where Solov´ev treats three levels of love – sexual love, universal love and love which connects ascendent and discendent kind of loves. The other important work which deals with eros is Solov´ev´s The Life-Drama of Plato. But Solov´ev is very critical of Plato because he was not able to apply the concept of euros in this world and the two worlds, the world of ideas and this world, remain disconnected in Plato´s view. The other central ideas of Solov´ev´s philosophy addressed in the dissertation are unitotality and divine-humanity which should be attained through love. To start with, man must return to original androgynity similar to God´s first creation described in Bible. But the last level should be achieve by the whole world and humankind with the Sophia. For this connection Solov´ev used a gnostic term, “sizigia,” which represented the restauration of nature to its original state before falling and love plays the key role in this reunion.
