Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der übersetzungskritischen Beurteilung von Jeanette Wintersons Romanen Written on the Body und Sexing the Cherry. Besondere Berücksichtigung findet die Analyse des Genderaspekts und wie dieser in der Übersetzung umgesetzt wird. Die Diplomarbeit besteht aus drei Abschnitten.
Der erste Abschnitt bietet nach kurzen einleitenden Worten einen theoretischen Überblick über übersetzungswissenschaftliche Themen, welche die spezifischen Übersetzungsproble-matiken dieses Vergleiches betreffen. Im Weiteren folgt ein kurzer Teil über feministische Translation unter Berücksichtigung des Genderaspekts in der Übersetzung, der Versuch einer Einordnung von Wintersons Werk sowie einer Beschäftigung mit den Übersetzungen und Übersetzerinnen.
Der Hauptteil (zweiter und dritter Abschnitt) dieser Diplomarbeit ist der übersetzungskriti-schen Untersuchung gewidmet. Es wird auf die zuvor theoretisch besprochenen Überset-zungsproblematiken spezifisch eingegangen. Weiters werden Eigenheiten der beiden Über-setzungen besprochen. In den letzten zwei Unterkapiteln des zweiten und dritten Abschnitts werden besonders der feministische sowie der Genderdiskurs in die Untersuchungen einbe-zogen.
Das Resümee soll in Verbindung mit den drei Abschnitten über die Qualität der Überset-zungen Aufschluss geben, sowie die bewusst oder unbewusst in der Übersetzung zustande ge-kommenen Veränderungen in der Darstellung der Genderthematik näher beleuchten.

In my thesis I analyze Jeanette Winterson’s novels Written on the Body and Sexing the Cherry regarding to aspects and problems in the German translations. In doing this, I additionally focus on how gender aspects are dealt with in the translations. My thesis consists of three parts.
The first part provides a short introduction and a rough theoretical overview about essential topics in translation studies concerning the problems of translation in this specific thesis. Furthermore, I give a brief insight into feminist translation aspects with a main focus on gender themes. Additionally, I discuss Winterson’s novels in context to the critical reception. Another chapter of the first part focuses on German translations and translators.
The second and third part of my thesis focuses on the analysis of aspects and problems in the German translations. I combine my analysis based on real examples from the German translations with the theoretical framework outlined in the first part of my thesis. In addition, I write about special characteristics of both translations. The last two chapters of the second and third part respectively, focus on the feminist and gender discourse.
In my conclusion, I want to provide a recommendation to gender-aware readers and the scientific community about the quality of the translations which I base on my analysis in the second and third part. Furthermore, I give an insight into changes – the more gender-aware reader and scientist could rather consider them distortions – of gender perceptions made consciously or subconsciously by the German translators.
