Diese Arbeit untersucht, wie sich das Verhältnis zwischen Speculative Fiction und Postkolonialismus in den Romanen der Autorin Nnedi Okorafor äußert. Sie erläutert das hybride Genre der Speculative Fiction und gibt einen Überblick über afrikanische Speculative Fiction sowie Afrofuturismus. Eine Analyse der Beziehungen zwischen Kolonialismus und Speculative Fiction bereitet einen Ausblick auf das kritische Potential postkolonialer Speculative Fiction vor. Anhand von Nnedi Okorafors Romanen Zahrah the Windseeker, The Shadow Speaker, Who Fears Death und Akata Witch wird gezeigt, wie sich Konzepte der Speculative Fiction mit Kategorien wie Widerstand, Gender, Wissen und „Otherness“ überschneiden und miteinander agieren.

This thesis attempts to examine how the links between speculative fiction and post-colonialism are being articulated in the novels of Nnedi Okorafor. It explains the hybrid genre of speculative fiction, and gives an overview of African speculative fiction as well as afrofuturism. An investigation into the relationship between colonialism and speculative fiction reveals the critical potential of postcolonial speculative fiction. The analysis of Nnedi Okorafors novels Zahrah the Windseeker, The Shadow Speaker, Who Fears Death und Akata Witch shows how concepts of speculative fiction interact with categories such as resistance, gender, knowledge and „Otherness“.
