Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Circo Fantazztico, einem Kinder- und Jugendzirkus, der vor rund zehn Jahren in Costa Rica aufgebaut wurde. Das Forschungsumfeld und die Organisation rund um den Zirkus werden beleuchtet.
Das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Arbeit liegt in den positiven Aspekten, die dem Zirkus als aktive Freizeitgestaltung zugeschrieben werden. Unter den positiven Aspekten werden Förderung der sozialen Kompetenzen, Gewalt, Drogen und Alkohol Prävention verstanden, wobei hierbei auch weiterführend Empowerment in den Mittelpunkt rückt. Es ergeben sich somit folgende Themenschwerpunkte: Zirkuspädagogisches Arbeiten, Entwicklungszusammenarbeit und das Konzept des Empowerments. Diese drei großen Bereiche werden im ersten, hermeneutischen Teil wissenschaftlich aufbereitet.
Der zweite Hauptteil der Arbeit ist eine empirische Forschungsarbeit. Sie ist aufgegliedert in die einzelnen Schritte bis hin zur Interpretation der Ergebnisse und Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage. Als Methode zur Datengenerierung wurde das Leitfadeninterview ausgewählt. Forschungsgegenstand sind die Jugendlichen des Circo Fantazztico.
Zentrale Ergebnisse belaufen sich auf die positive und bestärkende Wirkung des Zirkusprojekts auf die Kinder und Jugendlichen vor Ort. Obwohl dieser Zirkus sehr viel positiven Einfluss auf die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der Zirkusgruppe nimmt, sollte doch die Struktur der Organisation „Vida Nueva“ verbessert werden und nachhaltiger aufgebaut werden.

The following thesis is written about the „Circo Fantazztico“, a youth circus which has been formed ten years ago in Costa Rica. The situation and the circumstances of the participants and the whole area are part of the work.
There is the estimation, that circus practice influences participants positively in their social behavior and prevents them from taking drugs, alcohol or practicing violence. The first chapters contain literally work about circus and its functions, empowerment and development cooperation. The focus of the thesis is to indicate, that the use of circus in form of development cooperation helps the young people to empower themselves. This will be shown in the second part of the thesis, the empirical part. All steps, starting with the idea until the results, are mentioned. The methods of collecting data are guided interviews with members of the „Circo Fantazztico“.
The results certify the positive and corroborative effects from circus on the children and adults. Therefore the circus helps the young people taking chances to change their lives. Although the results are quite good, the structure of the organization “Vida Nueva” should be converted and built up in a sustainable way.
