In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Darstellung von DolmetscherInnen in der Literatur und filmischen Adaptionen anhand von drei Literatur- und drei Filmbeispielen untersucht.
Der erste Abschnitt bietet zunächst eine Übersicht über die Darstellung von DolmetscherInnen und ÜbersetzerInnen in Literatur und Film, sowie über die damit einhergehenden Klischees.
Das zweite Kapitel befasst sich mit der Theorie der filmischen Adaption und ihrer historischen Entwicklung sowie dem Wandel des Begriffes der „Werktreue“.
Anschließend wird ein kurzer Überblick über relevante Begriffe der Filmanalyse und der Erzähltheorie nach Franz K. Stanzel gegeben, welche später im Rahmen der Analyse Verwendung finden.
Der Hauptteil der Arbeit schließlich besteht aus der Analyse von drei Romanen und ihren jeweiligen Verfilmungen. Mit Hilfe eines Vergleichs von Szenenausschnitten aus Text und Film sollen mögliche Änderungen in der Darstellung der Figur des Dolmetschers anschaulich verglichen werden. Die Analyse konzentriert sich hier besonders auf die Positionierung der drei männlichen Dolmetscher im Erzählgefüge sowie auf die Themen Sichtbarkeit, Macht und Zuverlässigkeit der Translatoren in den jeweiligen Medien.
Im Abschlusskapitel der Arbeit wird nun zusammenfassend auf die filmischen Mittel eingegangen mit Hilfe derer die Darstellung der drei Dolmetscher im Medium Film erfolgt, und es findet ein Vergleich der Veränderungen in der Wahrnehmung der Figuren statt.

The aim of this thesis is to take a closer look at the way that interpreters are displayed in literature and film adaptations by means of analysing three literary texts and four films.
The first chapter provides the reader with an overview of the way translators and interpreters are represented in literature and films as well as of the clichés that come with this representation.
The second chapter focuses on the theory of film adaptation, its historical development and the changing perception of the concept of “fidelity”, a notion that often serves as an important category when it come to the “evaluation” of literary adaptations.
The next chapter shortly explains a few basic terms of film analysis, relevant for the main part of the thesis. It also deals with the narrative theory of Franz K. Stanzel, terminology that is necessary for the analysis of the interpreter’s position within the narrative.
The main part of this thesis consists of the analysis of the three novels . Its focus mainly lies on four aspects: the position of the interpreters within the narrative, their visibility, their reliability and the question of power.
The last part is an attempt to sum up the means that were used in the movies to represent and characterise the interpreters and takes a closer look at the changes to the way the characters are perceived. By means of comparing specific scenes from these novels and films, some shifts in the representation of the interpreters may become clearer.
