Smartphones spielen heutzutage eine immer bedeutendere Rolle in vielen Bereichen des Lebens. Sie werden vielfältig im Alltag und zur ständigen Kommunikation genutzt, so auch in Paarbeziehungen. Vergangene Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass die Rolle der Smartphones in romantischen Beziehungen in der Wissenschaft erst am Rande erforscht wurde. Es existieren Forschungen die zeigen, dass Mobiltelefone Auswirkungen auf die Zufriedenheit innerhalb einer Paarbeziehung haben können.
Anschließend daran hatte vorliegende Arbeit das Ziel, mögliche Veränderungen der Smartphones auf die Qualität und das Kommunikationsverhalten von Paaren zu untersuchen. Hierfür wurde im Vorfeld der Terminus „soziale Beziehung“ und im speziellen Paarbeziehungen anhand verschiedener psychologischer Theorien näher betrachtet. Ausgehend von den theoretischen Konzepten zu sozialen Beziehungen sowie von den Theorien zur computervermittelten Kommunikation im Hinblick auf Smartphones wurden 12 Leitfadeninterviews mit sechs Paaren durchgeführt.
Hierbei wurde jeder/e PartnerIn einzeln zur Smartphonenutzung in der Beziehung befragt. Anhand der Ergebnisse lässt sich erkennen, dass die Nutzung von Smartphones innerhalb der Beziehung kaum Auswirkungen auf diese hat. Smartphones beeinflussen demnach weder die Zufriedenheit der PartnerInnen in der Beziehung noch die Austragung eines Konfliktes. Streits werden weiterhin lieber persönlich ausgetragen und nicht via Smartphone. Hinsichtlich der Binnenkommunikation von Paaren kann gesagt werden, dass das Smartphone hier auch nur eine geringe Auswirkung hat. Allerdings lässt sich erkennen, dass die Nutzung des Smartphones sehr wohl positive als auch negative Auswirkungen auf den Alltag sowie das allgemeine Kommunikationsverhalten hat.

Smartphones play an increasingly important role in many areas of life. They are widely used in daily life and communication among friends, as well as among couple relationships. So far, there is a lack in studies about the smartphone-use in romantic relationships and its impact on them. There are some studies that show an impact from the use of a mobile phone on satisfaction within a couple's relationship.
Following up this lack of studies, the study aimed to investigate possible changes on the quality and the communication patterns of couples due to the use of a smartphone. Therefore the term “social relation” and especially couple relationships were specified and concretized on the foundation of various psychological theories. Based on these theoretical concepts to social relations, and based on the theories of computer-mediated communication in terms of smartphones, 12 semi-structured interviews were conducted with six pairs.
Here, each partner was asked individually about his smartphone use in the relationship. The results show that the use of smartphones within the relationship has little effect on the quality of the relationship. Smartphones therefore affect neither the satisfaction of the partners in the relationship nor the discharge of a conflict. The pairs are more likely to held disputes personally and not via smartphone. With regard to the internal communication of couples it can be said that the smartphone only has a minor impact. However, it can be seen that the use of smartphones indeed has positive and negative effects on everyday life and the general communication behaviour.
