Das Ziel der Diplomarbeit ist es darzustellen, was die aktuellen Möglichkeiten und Hindernisse von Entrepreneurship und Innovation in Mosambik sind. Als Grundlage der Analyse dient die Neue Institutionenökonomie. In einem ersten Teil der Arbeit werden verschiedene theoretische Zugänge und Definitionen zu Entrepreneurship, Innovation, wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung und Institutionen vorgestellt. Diese Ansätze werden diskutiert,
und es wird untersucht, inwiefern sie auf Mosambik anwendbar sind. Außerdem wird aufgezeigt, ob und wie Entrepreneurship, Innovation, wirtschaftliche Entwicklung und
Institutionen gemessen werden können. Die Neue Institutionenökonomie bildet den Rahmen
für den zweiten Teil der Arbeit, in dem anhand einer Analyse verschiedener Indikatoren die
Potentiale und Hindernisse von Entrepreneurship und Innovation erarbeitet werden. Des
Weiteren werden Ergebnisse von drei Studien, die ihren Fokus auf Barrieren von
Entrepreneurship in Mosambik haben, vorgestellt und verglichen.

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the current opportunities and constraints to
entrepreneurship and innovation in Mozambique, based on New Institutional Economics. In
the first part of this work, different theoretical approaches and definitions of entrepreneurship,
innovation, economic development and institutions are presented. These approaches are
discussed, showing the extent to which they are applicable to Mozambique. Furthermore, it is
examined whether and how entrepreneurship, innovation, economic development and
institutions can be measured. The New Institutional Economics is the framework for the
second part of the work, where the analysis of various indicators, the potentials and obstacles
of entrepreneurship and innovation will be developed. Furthermore, the results of three studies
focusing on barriers to entrepreneurship in Mozambique are presented and compared.
