Die vorliegende Arbeit thematisiert das Verhältnis von Sprache und Musik, genauer gesagt klassischer Musik. Dies geschieht einerseits mit einer kursorischen Aufarbeitung der Literatur zu diesem Verhältnis (Teil Eins der Arbeit) , andererseits mit einer eigens für diese Arbeit verfasste Studie über das Auftreten und die Verteilung von Metaphern in Programmeinführungen des Wiener Musikvereins (Teil Zwei der Arbeit). Im ersten Teil werden die Forschungsfrage und die Arbeitshypothese formuliert. Hierbei wird davon ausgegangen, dass in der Produktion musikwissenschaftlicher Texte bei der Beschreibung musikalischer Phänomene (i.e. Stücke klassischer Musik) ein hohes Maß an Metaphern zu verzeichnen ist. Es wird die Hypothese formuliert, dass in dem Textcorpus für die Studie im zweiten Teil der Arbeit, Metaphern verwendet werden, die sich in hohem Maße in die Bildfelder einordnen lassen, wie sie Thomas Störel (1997) formuliert hat. Anschließend erfolgt die Aufarbeitung der Literatursichtung. Diese erfasst einerseits die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit der Kommunikation über Kunst im Allgemeinen. Dies ist dem Umstand geschuldet, dass es sich bei dem Untersuchungsgegenstand um eine Kunstform, eben die Musik, handelt. Andererseits stellt sie auch wissenschaftliche Literatur vor, die ihr Hauptaugenmerk explizit auf das Verhältnis von Sprache und Musik richtet, und zwar aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln wie der Philosophie, Semantik, Semiotik, Syntax, etc. Ein weiterer, für die im zweiten Teil vorgestellte Corpusanalyse wichtiger Aspekt, nämlich die Studie von Thomas Störel über das Aufkommen von Metaphern in musikwissenschaftlichen Texten und die Einordnung dieser Metaphern in Bildfelder, wird ebenfalls im ersten Teil der Arbeit vorgestellt. Der zweite Teil stellt die Auswertung der Analyse der zu dem Thema beigetragenen Studie vor. Anfangs wird auf die der Studie zugrunde liegende Methodik, i.e. die qualitative Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring (1988, 1991), eingegangen. Hierauf folgt die Vorstellung des Corpus. Danach wird die Auswertung der Corpusdaten unter dem Aspekt der Kongruenz mit den Daten Störels dargestellt. Die gefundenen Kon- und Divergenzen werden abschließend diskutiert und interpretiert.

The present thesis focuses on the relationship between language and music, classical music more accurately. On the one side, this is achieved by a cursory reappraisal of the literature on this relationship (Part One of the thesis); on the other side with a study on the occurrence and distribution of metaphors in program launches of the Vienna Musikverein, specially drafted for this thesis (Part Two of the thesis). In part one, the research question and the working hypothesis are formulated. It is assumed that in the production of musicological texts with the purpose of describing musical phenomena - i.e. classical music - a high amount of metaphors is used. The hypothesis says that the metaphors, that are found in the texts, which constitute the corpus of the study in part two of the thesis, can be categorized to a high degree into the Bildfelder, as named by Störel (1997). What follows is the report of the literature sighting. This chapter covers the scientific exploration of the communication about art in general. This is due to the fact that the subject of the investigation is an art form, i.e. music. Furthermore, this chapter also introduces scientific literature, which focuses explicitly on the relationship between language and music from different angles, such as philosophy, semantics, semiotics, syntax, etc. Another aspect, which is specially important for the corpus analysis presented in the second part of the thesis, is namely the study by Thomas Störel (1997) about the emergence of metaphors in musicological texts and the categorization of these metaphors into the Bildfelder. It is presented in the first part of the thesis as well. The second part displays the analysis of the study originally contributed to the examination of the relationship between language and music. Initially, the methodology of the study, i.e. the qualitative content analysis, as introduced by Mayring (1988, 1991), is presented. It is followed by the presentation of the corpus. What follows is the analysis of the data corpus under the aspect of congruence with the data presented by Störel. Finally, the similarities and divergences between the present study and Störels study are discussed and interpreted.
