Abstract
(Deutsch)

(Englisch)
This master thesis strives to provide an answer to the research problem and the research question how the similarities and differences in the usage of social media platforms as a promotional tool by companies from the luxury segment in China, India and Malaysia can be characterized. For this purpose, four case studies were selected from the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, India and Malaysia. The theoretical framework was based on the theories of social media marketing, the Web 2.0 and the promotional mix.
In order to answer the research problem and the research question, the structured online observation of four case studies of their official fan pages channels on social media is provided. The findings reveal a number of differences and similarities between the cases. The main difference between Audi China, Audi Hong Kong, BMW India and Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is that only Audi China has started using mobile social network for marketing purposes. The main similarity among the companies from the luxury segment is the use of the promotional mix only on between one and two social media with the special focus on PR elements (sponsorship, events, EWOM, PR advertising), while other social media (VSP, PBSN, PSP) were used as the supportive tools generating a very small number of promotional mix tools (advertising, PR).
