Im Spannungsfeld zwischen dem Demokratiebegriff Karl Marx‘, der modernen, westlichen Demokratie und vor allem jenem der Kommunistischen Partei Chinas behandelt der Artikel philosophisch- theoretisch mit den Methoden des historischen Materialismus und der Kritischen Diskursanalyse das Thema, wie heute eine degenerierte Form von Demokratie ausgeführt wird und eine Analyse samt Ansätzen, wie die Machtausübung laut Marx wieder in die Hände des Volkes zurückgeführt werden kann.

After the global financial crisis, which started in 2008, a new kind of self-consciousness came about among Chinese politicians. Did these changes lead to a retreat from the free market towards a more democratic society, orientated around Marxist ideas? How far does Marx’s philosophy play a role in the modern construction of society?
The thesis gives a short overview over the development of socialist democracy, analysis the articles concerning democracy in the late Hu Jintao era in the newspaper “People's Daily” - the main publication of the party - and compares the ideas, popularized in society with the term democracy, developed by the philosopher Karl Marx; taking into account that problems in society repeat themselves and take place according to a historical pattern. The method to study this pattern is called historical materialism.
