Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
Luxury brand companies and its corporate communications are dealing with a lot of challenges concerning social media marketing nowadays. Social media activities imply a big effort since especially the exclusiveness of the brand has to be emphasized on. Modern external corporate communications have to combine social media marketing with the familiar way of branding, for example in print magazines. This master thesis focused on the way the luxury brand Omega communicates with its Facebook fans. In addition to that I also analysed and interpreted the comments of the community itself. Using the most important theoretical approaches like the uses-and-gratification approach and the news value theory, research questions and hypotheses were formulated. By answering them, I tried to find out with which content Omega assures the community of its exclusiveness and how the community reacts. Apart from that the method of quantitative content analysis gave information about the popularity of some of the postings. As Facebook is the most famous social media channel of interaction, I analysed with what purpose and what content the different Facebook users communicated with each other. The results of this analysis showed that the luxury brand Omega is frequently active on Facebook and invites his community to interact by asking them to comment on the content of the postings. If the community actually addressed the company with a question or criticism they did not get an answer. Hence the Facebook community developed its own communication structure. Questions that are originally proposed to the company where answered by certain community members. They somehow built their own crowd-intelligence. Omegas Facebook fans act as an own community that sticks together because of its interest in the same brand and supports each other with advises.
