Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht die Komödien Il Candelaio und La Mandragola nach bestimmten Gesichtspunkten textnah zu analysieren und diese dann zu vergleichen. Die Hauptmomente dieser komperativen Untersuchung sind Sexualität, Reichtum und Gelehrsamkeit. Dabei wird versucht das Stück einer philosophischen re-lecture zu unterziehen, die aber keine von außen herangetragene Re-Interpretation sein soll.
Im ersten Abschnitt wird zunächst La Mandragola zeitlich und thematisch verortet. Die Analyse der genannten Momente ergibt – zusammen mit dem Machiavelli’schen Begriffen fortuna, occasione, necessità und virtù – dass sie sich sämtlich in die Anthropologie und Naturphilosophie Machiavellis einfügen lassen, ja, genaugenommen, diese sogar ausdrücken.
Der zweite Abschnitt widmete sich Giordano Brunos Il Candelaio. Auch hier wird die Komödie, nach ihrer thematisch und inhaltlichen Einbettung, hinsichtlich der drei Hauptmomente untersucht. Es zeigt sich v.a. am Begriff tela, dass das Stück selbst eine philosphische Position ausdrückt, die mit den Begriffen perspektivischer Realismus und Koinzidenz zu fassen gesucht werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund erschließt sich der naturphilosophisch-anthropologische Bedeutungsgehalt des Stückes, wie er teilweise in späteren Werken Brunos ausgedrückt wird.
Der dritte Teil der vorliegenden Arbeit rekapitulierte den Sinngehalt der Vergleichsmomente und fügte, Nuccio Ordine folgend, etliche weitere hinzu, die sich größtenteils aus den bereits erarbeiteten ergaben.
Als Ergebnis dieser Arbeit kann festgehalten werden, dass die beiden Komödien nicht als Gegensatz zu den explizit philosphischen Werken ihrer Autoren gelesen werden müssen, sondern als ihr Komplement.

This study’s aim is an analysis and comparison of certain features of Machiavelli’s La Mandragola and Giordano Bruno’s Il Candelaio. The comparative inquiry’s main characteristics are sexuality, wealth and scholarliness. Pursuing a philosophical re-lecture rather than a re-interpretation, both procedure and substantive results are all close to the texts themselves.
The first part starts with contextual analysis of time and subject matter of Machiavelli’s Mandragola. Secondly, the play and its characters are analyzed according to the three main aforementioned characteristics. Along with other Machiavellian concepts - fortuna, occasione, necessità and virtù – they perfectly fit into Machiavelli’s anthropology as well as his natural philosophy. Strictly speaking they even express them in the most vivid manner.
The second part deals with Bruno’s Il Candelaio. Again, firstly, the comedy was embedded according to context in time, its topic and its genre. Secondly the analysis of the play and its characters according to the main characteristics shows that – together with the concept of tela – the comedy expresses a philosophical position. Its cornerstones are perspective relativism and the concept of coincidence. They constitute the basis of Bruno’s anthropology and natural philosophy.
The third part recapitulates the outcome of the previous parts. Furthermore it provides an explicit comparison of the major characteristics. Following Nuccio Ordine, additional comparative elements are included.
The conclusion of this study may be that the literary works of both authors are not in contrast to but constitute an important complementary part of their very philosophical works.
