Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract

In this thesis, photocatalytic TiO2 nanoparticles are used to degrade a commer-cial standard Pahokee Peat humic acid (PPHA). The changes induced in the PPHA are monitored using a HPSEC-UV/Vis-Fluorescence-ICP-MS system, as well as a UV/Vis Spectrophotometer and a Spectrofluorometer to complement the analysis.
An equilibrium experiment (Time study), photocatalytic TiO2 activity and Ad-sorption Isotherm study were performed previous to the Irradiation experiment in order to set the experimental conditions.
The results of this study confirm that the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanopar-ticles degrades PPHA molecules from high molecular weight to LMW com-pounds.
The change in molecular weight distribution is accompanied by reductions in UV-Vis absorbance, with a change of absorbance ratios that points to a loss of aromaticity and reduction of formation potential of DBPs. Fluorescence and elemental distribution are also affected by the photocatalytic degradation. However, the extent of degradation is not related to the concentrations of TiO2 nanoparticles, but to the adsorption of PPHA onto the surface of TiO2.
