Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This master thesis deals with the way of communication by “15-M”, a movement which has developed in May 2011 in Madrid. The conducted quantitative content analysis researches the thematic context and the purpose of the comments on the social media platform Facebook. Furthermore, the work analyses “democracy” related communication as well as the discourse quality of concerning comments. “Democracia Real Ya!” and “Spanish Revolution” as the movement´s two primary fan sites on Facebook have been explored. It has been found that the primary purpose of the comments was to express solidarity with the movement. Apart from that, the main function of comments on Facebook turned out to be predominantly discussing political issues and suggestions rather than mobilizing new participants or broaching the issue of „democracy“ in general. Admittedly, the overall discourse quality of the comments has been found to be on a relatively low level.
