Abstract
(Deutsch)
welche anorganische M oS 2 Nanoröhrchen und M o 6 S 2 I 8 Nanodrähte beinhalten.
Zwei verschiedene Peaks konnten in tanδ
Abstract

Polymer-nanoparticle composites (PNCs) play an increasing role in technology. The properties of
polymers can be significantly changed by incorporating nanoparticles, which yields a great potential
for applications. We present dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) measurements of a type of polyurea
elastomer and nanocomposites based on polyurea elastomers containing inorganic M oS 2 nanotubes
and M o 6 S 2 I 8 nanowires. Polyurea is a spontaneously occurring PNC, exhibiting a phase segregated
structure with hard nanodomains embedded in a soft (elastically compliant) matrix. Two distinct peaks
can be observed in tan δ in both the pure elastomer and composites of elastomer and nanoparticles.
The first peak at T g1 is attributed to a glass transition occurring in the soft matrix, the second peak
at T g2 to regions near the hard domains which experience a slowing down of dynamics. This can be
considered as being the inverse situation compared to glass forming liquids in rigid porous matrices,
which also have been investigated by DMA-measurements in context with the glass-transition and
comprehensively described[1]. It is demonstrated that the glass transition temperature T g1 of the
nanocomposites is increased by adding small amounts of inorganic nanotubes, whereas the transition
temperature T g2 remains unchanged. That influence of the filler leads to an upshift in T g1 , suggesting
an attractive interaction between the nanoparticles and the polymer. Focusing on the already phase
seperated structure of the pure polyurea elstomer, it has been discovered that the temperature T g1
of the glass transition related to the soft matrix can be tuned by chemically controlling the volume
fraction of soft to hard domains φ x during manufacture of the sample. The interaction between the
soft matrix and the hard nanodomains is selfevidently attractive in the pure polymer. It is shown
that increasing the fraction of the hard domains leads to an increase in T g1 . A further increase in the
relative volume of the hard domains eventually causes the two transition temperatures to match at
a certain volume-fraction φ xc = 0.6, i.e. T g1 = T g2 . It is found that φ xc corresponds closely to the
percolation threshold of randomly oriented overlapping ellipsoids of revolution with an aspect ratio of
about 1:4 - 1:5. It is therefore concluded, that reaching a volume-fraction of φ xc of hard domains,
polyurea-elastomers are transformed from a system of hard domains inside a soft matrix to a hard
matrix containing soft domains.
