Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
Topic of this paper is the analysis of how working environments change from the perspective of working biographies. To this end, 71 one interviews with employees in geriatric nursing, personnel procurement, the banking industry and telecommunications, that had been conducted beforehand, have been analyzed by means of a grounded-theory based method. This method allows an open-minded approach to the interview partners’ content-related statements and so to develop a theory that has its roots in the data material. The exemplary use of statements gave insight into the most crucial changes of work activities and employment. These changes in working environment are in many areas perceived as negatively challenging. Very often the interview partners told about work intensification, increased emotional challenge as well as time pressure. Additionally, this paper shows the reported positive impacts of change, such as the awareness of the importance of good vocational training offers or – leaving the risks aside – the chances of flexible employment. This encompasses a description of job resources that may soften the impact of those challenges. It became clear that individualization and rationalization are the main factors of change. These two factors are often closely related and so particularly powerful. The data material concerning rationalization showed strong parallels to Max Weber’s model of bureaucracy, which was therefore implemented into this paper.Topic of this paper is the analysis of how working environments change from the perspective of working biographies.
