Diese Diplomarbeit untersucht die Arten von Emanzipation in den Theaterstücken von Tennessee Williams Endstation Sehnsucht (A Streetcar named Desire), Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Die Nacht des Leguan (Night of the Iguana) und Die tätowierte Rose (The Rose Tattoo). Im Anschluss an eine kurze Einführung in das Leben und die Werke des Dramatikers, werden die typischen Merkmale der Südstaatenliteratur und Emanzipation im Allgemeinen präsentiert und die oben genannten Werke durch die Analysetechniken der Redeanalyse, Schlüsselwörter-im-Zusammenhang- Analyse, der manifesten Inhaltsanalyse, der Themenanalyse und der qualitativ vergleichende Analyse ausgewertet. Auf diese Weise konnten verschiedene Arten der Emanzipation gefunden und beschrieben werden: die Emanzipation von der Vergangenheit, die Emanzipation im Vergleich von Männern und Frauen, die Emanzipation der Südstaaten, die Emanzipation von jemandes Kultur, die Emanzipation von jemandes ethnischer Herkunft, die Emanzipation von jemandes geistigen Einschränkungen, die Emanzipation von sexuellen und körperlichen Einschränkungen und die Emanzipation von Zeit und Ort. Daraus folgend beweisen die Ergebnisse dieser Diplomarbeit, dass Emanzipation in den ausgewählten Stücken für verschiedene Charaktere in verschiedenen Stufen stattfinden und miteinander in Verbindung stehen.

This diploma thesis examines the types of emancipation in the plays of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Night of the Iguana and The Rose Tattoo. After a short introduction to the playwright`s life and works, the typical characteristics of Southern Literature and emancipation in general are presented and followed by an analysis of the plays named above by using the analysis techniques discourse analysis, keywords-in-context, manifest content analysis, theme analysis and qualitative comparative analysis. In that manner, different types of emancipation could be identified and described: emancipation from the past, emancipation men versus women, Southern emancipation, emancipation from one`s culture, emancipation from one`s ethnicity, emancipation from one`s mental limitations, emancipation from sexual and physical limitation and emancipation from time and location. Hence, the findings of this diploma thesis prove that emancipation in the selected plays takes place for different characters in different stages and are in relation to each other.
