In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird der Bildungsansatz der sogenannten Lebenskompetenzen (Life Skills Education) untersucht. Hierbei werden einerseits das Konzepte und die verschiedenen Begrifflichkeiten erläutert, andererseits wird auf die historische Entwicklung des Ansatzes eingegangen. Ein besonderer Fokus wird auf die Volksschulbildung in Uganda gelegt, wobei sowohl das Volksschulsystem als auch das Life Skills Bildungs-Programm des Landes betrachtet wird. Anhand eines Volksschulprojekts in Kampala werden die konkrete Anwendung und Vermittlung von Lebenskompetenzen dargestellt und deren Effekte analysiert. Außerdem wird der Zusammenhang zwischen Bildung und Entwicklung anhand unterschiedlicher Theorien und Debatten dargestellt.

The present thesis examines the different theories and approaches of life skills and life skills education. First, the concepts are explained and the terminology is outlined. Then the historical development of the approach is presented. The focus is put on the primary education sector in Uganda as well as the development and implementation of a countrywide life skills education programme. Furthermore, the effects of life skills education are analysed with the help of a case study, conducted at a specific Ugandan primary school. Additionally, the link between education and development, as well as a historical overview of their connection, is described.
