In der vorliegenden Masterarbeit werden zwei Themenbereiche analysiert, die Schnittpunkte aufweisen – das Dolmetschen im Gesundheitswesen und der Medizintourismus. Im theoretischen Teil werden beide Phänomene separat vorgestellt, es wird auf ihre Geschichte, aber v.a. auf die Einordnung in breitere Systeme und die AkteurInnen eingegangen. Das Ziel des empirischen Teils ist es, die Kommunikationsprozesse in einer medizinischen Einrichtung (Augenklinik), die PatientInnen aus dem Ausland versorgt, darzustellen. Außerdem liegt ein besonderes Augenmerk auf dem Rollenbild der DolmetscherInnen und dem Motiv der ausländischen PatientInnen für eine Behandlung im Ausland. Dies wird anhand von Aufnahmen gedolmetschter Gespräche, Beobachtung mit Feldnotizen und Interviews mit den AkteurInnen der Kommunikation beschrieben.

This master's thesis analyzes two topics with a common basis - healthcare interpreting and medical tourism. In the theoretical part, both phenomena are presented separately. This part of the thesis involves insights into their history, their classification and a description of the participants. The aim of the empirical part is to explain the communication processes in a medical institution (an eye clinic) that treats patients from abroad. In addition, special attention is paid to the role of the interpreters and the motive of foreign patients to be treated abroad. These aspects are described on the basis of recordings of the interpreted conversations, observations with field notes and interviews with the participants in the communication process in the clinic.
