Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This master thesis aims to analyze the appearance of incivility in the political discourse on the social network site (SNS) Facebook in general and in combination with emotions. Therefore, a quantitative content analysis of postings and comments on the Facebook-pages from HC Strache, Christian Kern, Der Standard and Oe24.at was conducted during the election campaign for the Austrian general election 2017. The study shows that Incivility was not dominant neither on the Facebook-pages of politicians nor on those of media. But still Incivility in a posting or a comment does cause an increase of interactions. Furthermore, it causes more Incivility in comments made. Certain contextual factors like the topic of a posting or mentioned peoples and organizations determine incivility in postings and comments. Also, emotions were not dominant neither in postings nor in comments. The share of emotional utterances was increased in postings and comments that contained incivility. In respect of the type of emotional utterance the study shows that in general enthusiasm was dominant, whereas in comments that contained incivility emotional utterances of the category aversion were dominant.
