Die Arbeit untersucht das Konzept von sozialer Gerechtigkeit sowie die Identität der Armen und Unterdrückten im Buch Amos. Sie beginnt mit einer Analyse von Gerechtigkeitskonzeptionen im Alten Testament, dem alten Ägypten und Mesopotamien. In einem zweiten Schritt wird der biblische Text in seinem historischen Kontext eingeordnet, bevor im Hauptteil die relevanten Passagen exegetisch analysiert werden. Die Textabschnitte, Amos 2,6-8; 4,1; 5,7, 10-12, 24; 6,1, 3-6, 12 sowie 8,4-7, wurden entsprechend ihres Bezugs zum Thema der Arbeit gewählt. Die Exegese mündet in einer Zusammenfassung davon, welche Vorstellungen von (sozialer) Gerechtigkeit in Amos zu finden sind. Des Weiteren soll hier die Identität der Angeklagten sowie der Unterdrückten in Amos näher definieren. Zuletzt soll Amos auf seine Relevanz für heutige Themen der sozialen Gerechtigkeit hin befragt werden.

The thesis at hand explores the concept of social justice as well as the identity of the oppressed in Amos. It begins with an analysis of the concepts of justice in the Old Testament and its surrounding cultures, ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. In a second step, the historical context of this biblical text is considered which is followed by the exegesis of the relevant passages. The passages chosen, Amos 2:6-8; 4:1; 5:7, 10-12, 24; 6:1, 3-6, 12 and 8:4-7 were chosen according to their relevance to (social) justice and oppression in Amos. The exegesis concludes in an analysis of the concept of (social) justice in Amos as well as the “profiling of the poor”. In a final step, the question of what impulses and inspirations Amos may offer to contemporary readers will be considered.
