Die vorliegende Masterarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Ausprägung des politischen Interesses sowie der politischen und sozialen Partizipationsbereitschaft von SchülerInnen im Wahlalter und wirft darüber hinaus einen Blick auf deren Haltung und Einstellung zu Politischer Bildung im Schulunterricht. Zunächst werden die für die Masterarbeit zentralen theoretischen Ansätze und Begrifflichkeiten erläutert, der Stand der Forschung präsentiert und der Entwicklungsprozess der Politischen Bildung in Österreichs Schulen nachgezeichnet. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf der derzeitigen Ausgestaltung von Politischer Bildung im Bereich Schule. Anhand einer schriftlichen Online-Befragung wurden Daten von SchülerInnen im Wahlalter aus verschiedenen österreichischen Bundesländern erhoben.
Im empirischen Abschnitt dieser Masterarbeit erfolgt die Analyse und Interpretation des mit Hilfe des Statistikprogramms IBM SPSS Statistics 25 ausgewerteten Datenmaterials von insgesamt 281 SchülerInnen. Dabei wird dem gängigen Klischee einer politikverdrossenen Jugend widersprochen sowie unter den SchülerInnen die Tendenz einer stärkeren Forderung nach mehr Politischer Bildung in der Schule sichtbar. Kontroverse Ergebnisse zeigen sich hinsichtlich des von den SchülerInnen empfundenen Einflusses von Politischer Bildung in der Schule auf ihr politisches Interesse einerseits und ihre Partizipationsbereitschaft andererseits. Darüber hinaus wird deutlich, dass SchülerInnen im Wahlalter mehrheitlich nicht an ihre eigene politische Wirksamkeit glauben.

The master thesis focuses on the political interest and the willingness of Austrian school students of voting age to participate in political and social life. In addition it highlights the attitude of the students towards political education in school. The first part of this thesis explains essential theoretical concepts and key terminology, presents the state of the art and provides an insight into the historical development of political education in the Austrian school system with a focus on its current status.
The data required for this work were collected by means of written online survey. After analyzing 281 questionnaires with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 25, the output was presented in the empirical part of this thesis. The results contradict the common stereotype of a young generation characterized by a general disenchantment with politics and rather point towards an increased demand of political education in school amongst students. With regard to the perceived impact of political education to the political interest and the willingness to participate in political and social life the results are controversial. Furthermore, the survey shows that the majority of the students doesn´t believe in their own political effectiveness.
