Ausgehend von der These, dass Religion im Schulunterricht von immenser Bedeutung ist, jedoch aufgrund der konfessionellen Bindung der diversen Unterrichtsangebote, nicht den Wünschen und Bedürfnissen der Lernenden gerecht werden kann, soll anhand David Humes Dialoge über natürliche Religion, ein Modell aufgezeigt werden, das die Integration von religiösen Themen in den Philosophieunterricht vorsieht, um so eine offenere und neutralere Begegnung mit der Thematik zu ermöglichen. Humes religionsphilosophisches Meisterwerk soll die Schnittstelle der eng verbundenen Disziplinen Religion und Philosophie repräsentieren und exemplarisch für die potenzielle Implementation von religiösen Themen in den Philosophieunterricht stehen. Einerseits ist es Ziel dieser Arbeit ein alternatives Modell für die Integration von Religion in den Schulunterricht zu präsentieren, dessen Notwendigkeit sich aus den zunehmend individualisierten Glaubensvorstellungen der jungen Menschen in Österreich ergibt, und andererseits soll durch eine detaillierte Analyse des behandelten Werkes und einer Präsentation diverser Anwendungsbeispiele, demonstriert werden, wie die Verbindung zwischen Religion und Philosophie praktisch in der Schule gestaltet werden könnte. Aufgrund der thematischen Teilung richtet sich der Fokus neben einer philosophischen Orientierung, die vor allem in der Analyse der Dialoge über natürliche Religion zum Ausdruck gebracht wird, ganz klar auch auf die Fachdidaktik der Philosophie. Beide Aspekte in Kombination sollen eine Antwort auf die Frage liefern, wie Religion in den Schulunterricht integriert werden kann, ohne dabei auf dogmatische Lehren und restriktive Umgangsformen zurückgreifen zu müssen.

Considering the often-underrated interest of young people in Austria concerning religious topics and their essential role in educational settings, a new approach towards the integration of religion in schools needs to be established, as the current system, which represents a strictly confessional interpretation of religious education, is clearly outdated and does not fully meet the students´ needs. In order to initiate a thinking process about the barely questioned methods and restrictions of common religious education, this thesis is concerned with presenting a more neutral way of dealing with religious topics, by proposing an integration of religious debates in to the subject of philosophy. Due to the thematical alikeness, philosophy represents a particularly appropriate discipline for the implementation of religion. Besides the theoretical foundation for the necessity of religious education, and a theoretical proposal for a new variety of the implementation of religious topics, the primary focus of this thesis lies on the presentation of a specific example of religious philosophy and how it suits the subject of philosophy in Austrian schools. By providing a detailed analysis of one of the most essential works in the field of religious philosophy, David Hume´s Dialogues concerning natural religion, and a collection of different methods for the practical implementation, an example of how a symbiosis of religion and philosophy can be created in a school setting, is established. While the main part of the thesis is dedicated to philosophy, by offering an in- depth insight into one of the greatest works of the philosophy of religion, also the focus on the didactics plays a salient role, as it manages to transfer the theoretical analysis into practice. Both aspects, philosophy and didactics in combination, should present an accessible solution for creating a sphere in which the consideration of religious topics can happen in an open and relatively neutral way.
