This thesis uses Grounded Theory approaches to analyze manifestos of the populist right-wing group members of the European Parliament in a recent pre-election campaign of May 2019. Party manifestos of European People’s Party (EPP), Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) and European and Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) were analyzed using descriptive coding which helped to detect the broad categories of topic’s main components that includes: Whiteness; Language; Religion; Patriotism; Localism; Women role in society; Climate Change and other Political Entities/Ideologies.
The document analysis revealed that all previously determined components of European Identity were mentioned in the analyzed manifestos; however, in particular cases, not in all of them. “Role of women in society” was not discussed by EFDD and ECR, while “Language” did not occur in the ECR manifesto either and “Whiteness” as a main component that included topics related to migration, asylum, and refugees was a shared topic in the manifestos of EPP, ALDE and ECR and border protection appeared in all analyzed texts, integration in this regard appeared only by the EPP and ALDE; furthermore, ALDE was the sole political group, which was concerned with refugee protection.
