Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This master thesis deals with the development of the modern state school system in Afghanistan and its influence regarding the stabiliziation respectively destabilization of the afghan society. The background of this inquiry is the fact, that the massive expansion of the state school system in the course of the military intervention by western forces is quite often being portrayed as a great accomplishment. The inquiry shows however that in the history of modern Afghanistan (the beginning of which is being set with the reign of Abdur Rahman) a massiv expansion of the education system triggered destabilizing effects already several times. Both Amanullahs ambitious project of building a modern school system and the educational initiatives of the communists led to a an armed reaction of great parts of the rural population. Currently the education system is once again a contested instituation. Both the state and the insurgents try to put trough their idea of education. Though education forms an indispensable element with regard to the transformation of the afghan society, this transformation is not yet being completed. Insofar the afghan state education system is not a neutral player. It is rather located in the focus of confrontation between the state and the insurgents. The results of this research are being compared with the contents of a certain school subject, namely vatandusti – patriotism. This comparison will show, wether the contents of the school system are serving concret needs of the population, or wether they portray these needs ideologically distorted.
