Abstract

Kontext.

Context. In this thesis the complex organic molecules (COMs) of the protostellar binary SMM1 in the Serpens main star formation region are analysed. The excitation conditions (the excitation temperature and the column density) of the identified species towards SMM1a and SMM1b are analysed and put into context with similar sources, namely other hot corinos.Aims.This thesis aims to determine the abundances of COMs towards the protostellar binary SMM1a and to compare them to other hot corinos.
Methods. The used observational ALMA Band 6 data towards SMM1 was taken in 2015 and 2018 in the course of two different surveys. The species were identified by comparing the fitted extracted spectra to the synthetic spectra as well asthe probable species for each transition. The excitation temperature and column density of a species were calculated under the assumptions of local thermodynamic equilibrium and that all transitions are optically thin and thermalized. The abundance ratios are taken with respect to CH3OH and the deuteration fraction of formaldehyde was taken with respect to its doubly deuterated isotopologue D2CO.
Results. The excitation temperature and column density for 10 different species could be calculated towards SMM1a and for 5 species towards SMM1b. The excitation temperatures and column densities of the species are comparable to those of other hot corinos like HH 212, IRAS 16293-2422 A and B. CH3OH is an exception, where the column density is 1-3 orders of magnitude lower as compared to other sources. This influences the abundance ratio of the different species and leads to a generally higher abundance as compared to other hot corinos. The species could be divided into two groups, one tracing the hot (> 100 K) gas component near the central protostar and one tracing the more extended colder(< 100 K) regions of the hot corino, except for CH3OCHO where the excitation temperature is too low compared to the binding energy. The two protostellar binary sources SMM1a and SMM1b show a difference in number and intensity of the transitions, with SMM1b having only a fourth of the number of transitions of SMM1a. The D/H ratio of SMM1a is comparable to the formaldehyde deuteration of IRAS 16293-2422.
Conclusions. The abundances in relation to CH3OH of the 10 identified species as well as the D/H ratio are comparable to those of other hot corinos. These hot corinos are located in different star forming regions with different properties, which could indicate that for these sources a similar formation scheme could be applied. The difference in the number of transitions between SMM1a and SMM1b might point to SMM1b being in a different evolutionary stage, but which scenario applies for this source is not clear.
