Die Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung wurden von der UN-Generalversammlung im Jahr 2015 mit dem Anspruch auf Ganzheit und Unteilbarkeit verabschiedet. Ziel dieser Masterar-beit ist es, Korrelationen, Synergien und Zielkonflikte innerhalb der Agenda 2030 aus geo-graphischer Perspektive zu erfassen. Auf der Grundlage des SDG-Index 2020 wird die Kor-relationsanalyse auf globaler und nationaler Ebene sowie für verschiedene Ländergruppen nach nationalem Einkommen, geographischer Lage und anderen Indizes durchgeführt. Die Analyse offenbart ein charakteristisches Korrelationsmuster mit drei trennscharfen Grup-pen: Die Ziele 1 bis 11 und 16 haben eine positive Korrelation zueinander, wohingegen die Korrelation zu den Zielen 12 und 13 negativ ist. Für die Ziele 14, 15 und 17 können keine aussagekräftigen Korrelationsmuster festgestellt werden. Diese Korrelationsmuster und auf-fällige Abweichungen werden anschließend näher untersucht, um kausale Zusammenhänge innerhalb der Agenda 2030 in Form von tatsächlichen Synergien und Zielkonflikten zu iden-tifizieren. Insgesamt zeigt die Korrelationsanalyse auf, dass Synergien häufiger auftreten als Zielkonflikte, wobei letztere weiterhin bestehen und dementsprechend thematisiert werden müssen. Auch wenn viele Aspekte der Agenda 2030 sich gegenseitig bedingen, sind erfüllen die Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung damit weder den Anspruch auf Ganzheit und Klarheit nicht vollumfänglich.

The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015 along with the claim that these goals are integrated and indivisible. The objective of this master’s thesis is to assess correlations, synergies and trade-offs across the 2030 Agenda from a geographic perspective. Based on the SDG Index 2020, the correlation analysis is conducted on the global and national levels as well as by different country groupings based on national income, geographic location and other indices. The analysis shows a significant correlation pattern with three distinct groups on different levels: SDGs 1 to 11 and 16 have a positive correlation with each other, whereas the correlation with SDGs 12 and 13 is nega-tive. No significant correlation patterns can be observed for SDGs 14, 15 and 17. Subse-quently, these correlation patterns and notable deviations are further analysed to identify causal relationships across the 2030 Agenda in form of effective synergies or trade-offs. Overall, the correlation analysis demonstrates that synergies are more numerous than trade-offs, although the latter subsist and need to be addressed accordingly. Therefore, while many aspects of the 2030 Agenda are mutually beneficial, the SDGs are neither fully inte-grated nor indivisible.
