Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This Master’s thesis aims at understanding the usefulness of theatre pedagogy as an integrative tool in the didactics of interpreting. This approach has emerged in the last twenty years and different theoretical contexts have developed, the comparison of which will be limited to the Italian and German-speaking contexts in the study carried out. The connecting point of the presented ap-proaches is based on practicality and on a translation-holistic vision of the interpreting act that takes into account the meta- and body-communicative components of communication in an inter-preting situation. Considerations from intercultural communication research are used in this study to outline translational competence requirements and to formulate more concrete learning objec-tives of a modern didactics of translation and interpreting. The examination of more practice-oriented didactic methods takes place in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research frame-work that focuses on reality-related problems and makes actors in the academic world more capa-ble of acting. To this end, the constitution of the work is inspired by the most important thought re-formers of the XX century: Edgar Morin (2000), with his promotion of a reform of thinking, Paulo Freire (1977), with his „Pedagogy of the Oppressed”, and Augusto Boal (1989), who transferred Freire’s view to the level of theatre with the „Theatre of the Oppressed”. The practicability of in-terpreting didactics oriented towards theatre pedagogy is empirically examined with a focus on the SSLMIT translation institute at the University of Bologna in Italy. In the context of this work, a qualitative interview study is conducted with two students and two teachers who participated in the theatre activities organised by the student theatre association „SsenzaLiMITi”. The interviews will be used to collect the respondents’ experiences of the theatre activities in order to determine whether they felt any repercussions or changes in their behavioural patterns during the academic interpreting exercises. The content analysis – which is based on a total of 13 deductively and in-ductively formed categories – shows that the students’ perceptions are in line with the model of competence development proposed in theory by Balboni and Caon (2014) and overlap with the ed-ucational purposes of theatre activities postulated in the relevant literature (Fernández et al. 2009). The same principle is used to identify changed behavioural patterns on the part of the teachers that contribute to didactic competence development. In conclusion, theatre pedagogy can be used as a suggestion for improvement in the didactics of interpreting, but more experimentation of the long-term effects and possible application for general translation didactics is encouraged.
