Die vorliegende Masterarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Übersetzung mehrsprachiger tschechischer Lyrik ins Deutsche. Anhand des Übersetzungsprozesses von Jan Faktor und Annette Simon bei der Übertragung von Ivan Blatnýs Gedichtsammlung „Pomocná škola Bixley“ / „Hilfsschule Bixley“ wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie mit der Mehrsprachigkeit im Ausgangstext umgegangen wird und welche Folgen die Mehrsprachigkeit auf den Übersetzungsprozess hat. Zentrale Hypothesen sind dabei, dass die Mehrsprachigkeit ein Übersetzungsproblem darstellt und eine verstärkte Einbindung von Hilfsmitteln und Akteur*innen in den Übersetzungsprozess mit sich bringt.
Im Theorieteil der Arbeit wird in die Thematiken mehrsprachige Literatur, Exilliteratur sowie in die Translationsprozessforschung eingeführt. Dabei werden auch die zentralen Konzepte der Arbeit – Übersetzungsprobleme und Akteur*innen im Übersetzungsprozess – vorgestellt und es wird in verschiedene Ansätze zur Analyse eingeführt. Außerdem wird das Untersuchungsmaterial vorgestellt und dabei unter anderem eine Übersetzungsgeschichte Ivan Blatnýs erarbeitet. Im Praxisteil der Arbeit finden sich die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung des genannten Übersetzungsprozesses. Als Grundlage wurden hierfür nicht nur Ausgangs- und Zieltext, sondern auch weitere Paratexte, Interviews und Arbeitsversionen unter anderem mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse sowie „close reading“ untersucht. In einem Exkurs wird abschließend der Ansatz von Jan Faktor und Annette Simon dem in den Übersetzungen der „Hilfsschule Bixley“ von Anna Moschovakis und Veronika Tuckerová sowie Frank-Wolf Matthies gegenübergestellt.
Die Arbeit zeigt Faktors und Simons produktiv-kreativen Umgang mit der Mehrsprachigkeit. Die Mehrsprachigkeit kann dabei nur bedingt als Übersetzungsproblem angesehen werden. Zudem führt sie zwar zu einer Nutzung von Hilfsmitteln und auch zu einer zusätzlichen Einbindung von Akteur*innen, allerdings ist der Übersetzungsprozess auch abgesehen von der Mehrsprachigkeit enorm vielstimmig.

The Master’s Thesis analyzes the translation of multilingual Czech poetry into German. The object of investigation is the translation process of Jan Faktor and Annette Simon while translating Ivan Blatný’s poetry collection “Pomocná škola Bixley” / “Bixley Remedial School” into German (“Hilfsschule Bixley”). The thesis examines how the translators dealt with the multilingualism of the source text and seeks to answer the question: what impact has multilingualism had on the translation process. Pivotal conjectures are that multilingualism leads to a translation problem and induces a stronger usage of translation resources and a stronger integration of social agents into the process.
The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the topics multilingual literature, literature in exile, and translation process research. It also includes an introduction into the core concepts of the thesis – translation problems and social agents of translation. It demonstrates various approaches of analyzing those concepts. Moreover, there is an overview of the research material analyzed and a translation history of Ivan Blatný. The practical part shows the results of the study of the above-mentioned translation process of Jan Faktor and Annette Simon. Not only were the source and the target texts object of study, but also several paratexts, interviews and interim versions, which were analyzed through qualitative content analysis and close reading. The final chapter shows different approaches to translate Blatný’s multilingual poetry. The objects of study are the translations of “Bixley Remedial School” from Anna Moschovakis / Veronika Tuckerová and Frank-Wolf Matthies.
The Master’s Thesis shows the productive and creative approach of Faktor and Simon to translate multilingual poems. Multilingualism can be seen only partly as a translation problem. Indeed, the multilingualism leads to a stronger usage of translation resources and to a strong integration of social agents, however a large number of agents are involved in the many-voiced translation process also regarding the monolingual poems.
