Cloud Computing ist seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt eines der wichtigsten Themen im Bereich der Informationstechnologie. Cloud-Lösungen, wie etwa cloudbasierte- Software oder -Speicherlösungen sind heutzutage auf zahlreichen Endgeräten omnipräsent. Auch aus betriebswirtschaftlicher Sichtweise ist die Technologie insbesondere für Technologieunternehmen zu einem wichtigen Wirtschaftsfaktor geworden. Dies wird auch allein schon an der Tatsache sichtbar, dass die Technologie mittlerweile bei führenden IT-Dienstleistern vielfach zu einem der wichtigsten Geschäftsfeldern geworden ist. Aus diesem und weiteren Gründen beschäftigt sich die Masterarbeit „Cloud Computing: Ein Überblick über Technologie und Anwendungen sowie die Praxis bei österreichischen Unternehmen.“ mit den wesentlichsten Aspekten dieser Technologie. Dabei wird mithilfe einer qualitativen Forschungsmethodik gezeigt, was die Technologie genau ist und welche Formen von Cloud Computing es gibt. Zudem werden Aspekte, wie Sicherheit, rechtliche Rahmenbedingungen oder der Einfluss auf den Bereich Electronic Business ebenso dargestellt, wie der Energieverbrauch und Umweltaspekte. Außerdem wird anhand einer aktuellen Fallstudie illustriert, welche praktischen Probleme sich bei der Nutzung der Technologie ergeben können. Im Hauptteil der Masterarbeit geht es schließlich um die Frage, wie österreichische Großkonzerne die Technologie nutzen und bewerten. Dafür wurden Experteninterviews mit sieben Cloud-Computing-Verantwortlichen von österreichischen Großkonzernen geführt und mithilfe der qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse nach Mayring vergleichend analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass Cloud Technologie in den Unternehmen meist seit langer Zeit verwendet wird, in der Nutzung mehr Vor- als Nachteile gesehen werden und alle der befragten Unternehmen eine eigene Cloud-Computing-Strategie erarbeitet haben. Außerdem setzen die Unternehmen in der Regel auf alle gängigen Formen von Cloud Computing (SaaS, PaaS und IaaS) und bewerten deren Sicherheit meist als vergleichbar mit jener von normalen On-Premises-Systeme. Hinsichtlich der Investitionen im Cloud-Bereich gaben die Befragten an, eher Schritt-für-Schritt anstelle von hohen Einmalinvestitionen vorgehen zu wollen. Im Bereich der Rahmenbedingungen von Cloud Computing forderten die Cloud-Experten außerdem vielfach mehr Initiativen von der Europäischen Union und Österreich ein. Im letzten Teil der Arbeit wurde außerdem die Technologieakzeptanz und Technologienutzung von Cloud-Technologie anhand der Unified Theory of User Acceptance 1 und 2 von V. Venkatesh et al. (2003, 2012) erläutert. Dafür wurde eine auf der UTAUT1/2-Theorie aufbauende Umfrage unter Cloud-Computing-Verantwortlichen österreichischer Großkonzerne durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse der deskriptiven Analyse zeigen, dass die Unternehmen eine positive- bis erhöht positive Technologieakzeptanz hinsichtlich Cloud- Computing-Technologie aufweisen. Hinsichtlich der zukünftig geplanten Nutzung von Cloud-Lösungen bei den befragten Unternehmen zeigte sich ein ähnliches Bild.

Cloud computing has been one of the hottest topics in information technology for more than a decade. Nowadays, cloud solutions, such as cloud-based software or cloud storages, are omnipresent on numerous end devices. Additionally, cloud technology has become an important economic factor too. This is especially the case for technology companies, whose cloud business in many cases became one of their most important business segments. For this and other reasons, the master's thesis "Cloud Computing: An overview of technology, its applications and the corporate practice in large Austrian corporations." investigates the most important aspects of this technology. The scientific work is mainly based on a qualitative research methodology. It describes what cloud computing is and which different forms exist. Furthermore, other aspects such as security, legal conditions or the influence of cloud computing on electronic business are presented as well. Further topics treated include energy consumption and environmental aspects of the technology, as well as a case study that illustrates practical problems that can arise with cloud computing. Finally, the main part of the master’s thesis deals with the question how large Austrian corporations use and evaluate the technology. For this purpose, expert interviews were conducted with seven employees in charge of cloud computing from different large Austrian corporations. The answers from the interviews were then analyzed comparatively by using Mayring's qualitative content analysis. The results of the analysis show that cloud technology has mostly been used by the companies since a long time. Other findings include that the technology has more advantages than disadvantages and that all companies use their core cloud technology on a group-wide level. What is more, all of the companies surveyed have stated that they have established their individual cloud computing strategy. Moreover, companies generally rely on all common forms of cloud computing (SaaS, PaaS and IaaS) and usually rate their security as comparable to that of normal on-premises systems. With regard to investments in the cloud area, respondents indicated that they wanted to proceed step-by-step rather than making large one-off investments. Regarding the legal- and political environment of cloud computing, the cloud experts also called for more initiatives from the European Union and Austria. Apart from this, the technology acceptance and technology use of cloud technology was also analyzed by using the Unified Theory of User Acceptance 1 and 2 by V. Venkatesh et al. (2003, 2012). For this purpose, a survey based on the UTAUT1/2 theory was carried out among eight persons, who are responsible for cloud computing in large Austrian corporations. The results of the descriptive analysis show that the companies have a positive to increased positive acceptance regarding cloud computing technology. A similar picture emerged concerning the intended use of cloud solutions.
