Der Fokus dieser Feldstudie liegt auf kurdischen StudentInnen der zweiten Generation in Stockholm, die sich in einem kurdischen Studentenverein engagieren. Die Studie befasst sich mit Fragen der Zugehörigkeit und Identität und setzt diese in Bezug zur Studiumsmotivation der StudentInnen. Von besonderem Interesse sind dabei die sozialen Interaktionen, in denen Identität und Zugehörigkeiten fortlaufend ausverhandelt werden. Diese Forschung zeigt, dass die StudentInnen, die an der Studie teilgenommen haben, im Rahmen der Studentenvereine eine eigene kollektive Identität konstruieren. Das gemeinsame politische Ziel eines unabhängigen „Kurdistans“ dient dabei als wichtiger Anstoß für den Prozess des Gruppenzusammenhalts. Das Ziel ist eingebunden in die vorrangingen Grundsätze und Werte der Vereine, Einheit, Vernetzung und Bildung. Im Verlauf der Feldstudie ist der starke Eindruck entstanden, dass das multikulturelle politische Klima und die eher außergewöhnliche intellektuelle kurdische Diaspora in Schweden einen wichtigen Rahmen für die Entstehung der untersuchten kurdischen Studentenvereine bilden.

Focus of this fieldstudy is on second-generation Kurdish students in Stockholm who are engaged in Kurdish student associations. The study deals with questions of belonging and identity and their interrelations to the students’ high motivation for their university study/career. Of particular interest are the social interactions where identity and belonging are continuously negotiated. The research shows that the students participating in this fieldstudy construct/build a collective identity of their own in the frame of Kurdish student associations. The common political goal of an independent “Kurdistan“, constitutes an important trigger in the process of group bonding. The goal is embedded into the associations’ primary principles and values of unity, networking and education. In the course of the fieldstudy the strong impression arose that the multicultural political climate and the rather exceptional intellectual Kurdish diaspora in Sweden constitute an important contextual setting for the evolvement of Kurdish student associations.
