Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
Motivation is a constant companion every day in our whole life. It is not only essential during on a day-to-day basis but also plays a major role in sports. This paper investigates the reasons people have chosen judo as their sport and the correlation between the quality of motivation and the duration of judo practice. To answer this question, 117 judoka aging 17 to 67 from Austria took part in a quantitative study. On one hand the questionnaire investigates the quality of motivation of the participants in judo and on the other hand, this paper examines the reasons why the participants perform judo. The results of this study clearly indicates that the main factor of motivation to practice judo is “fun”, followed by “affiliation”. In contrast to this, external factors such as “social pressure” are on the opposite side of the spectrum and therefore the least important motivational factor. Extrinsic motivation is clearly shown to be less important to the participants than intrinsic motivation. However there is no significant correlation between the quality of motivation and the duration of practising judo. The study results imply that judoka practice their sport especially for intrinsic reasons.
