Die Dissertation beschäftigt sich mit katholischer Schule als pastoralem Handlungsort in einer Zeit sozioreligiöser und gesellschaftlicher Transformationen. Dabei wird exemplarisch eine bestimmte Schule, nämlich das Schulzentrum Friesgasse, eine katholische Privatschule im 15. Wiener Gemeindebezirk, in den Blick genommen. Wie viele katholische Schulen im deutschsprachigen Raum ist die untersuchte Institution einerseits von ihrer Tradition als Ordensschule bestimmt und befindet sich andererseits in einem massiven Wandlungsprozess. Zentrale Herausforderungen ergeben sich durch die Veränderung der Gesellschaft im Kontext von Säkularisierung und Pluralisierung. Diese Veränderungen haben erstens Auswirkungen auf den Schulerhalter: Die Gründerkongregation zieht sich zurück und Laien übernehmen die Verantwortung für die Gestaltung der Bildungseinrichtung. Das traditionell katholische Personal und die christliche Schülerpopulation transformieren sich zweitens zu einer kulturell und religiös-diversen Schulgemeinschaft. Die Transformationsphänomene erfordern eine Neuorientierung und Aktualisierung des Profils der katholischen Schule. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, welche Rahmenbedingungen geschaffen werden müssen, dass Laien, die am katholischen Schulzentrum Friesgasse Verantwortung übernehmen und pädagogisch wirken, den ererbten Auftrag im Kontext aktueller Herausforderungen theologisch kompetent in die Zukunft tragen können. Das Dissertationsprojekt beleuchtet nach der im ersten Teil „Orientierung“ beschriebenen Standortbestimmung der Forschenden in einem zweiten Teil die kairologischen Herausforderungen. In der empirisch-praktischen Studie wird unter Anwendung des methodischen Ansatzes der Aktionsforschung die Bildungseinrichtung hinsichtlich der aktuellen Transformationen untersucht. Der dritte kriteriologische Teil verbindet den kairologischen Befund mit den ordensspezifischen und lehramtlichen Dokumenten zum Thema katholische Schule. Im abschließenden praxeologischen Teil werden in fünf Praxisbausteinen Vorschläge für zukunftsfähige Konzepte entwickelt: Die Schärfung des Profils, ein Empowerment- und Entlastungspaket für Mitarbeitende, die Bildung von Netzwerken, ein pluralitätssensibles schulpastorales Konzept sowie die Schaffung situationsgerechter Rahmenbedingungen sollen die an katholischer Schule partizipierenden Laien in die Lage versetzen, katholische Schule theologisch begründet als zeit- und traditionsgerechten Ort der Kirche zu gestalten.

The dissertation deals with Catholic schools as a place of pastoral action in a time of socio-religious and social transformations. The focus is on a specific school, namely the Friesgasse School Centre, a private Catholic school in Vienna's 15th district. Like many Catholic schools in German-speaking countries, the institution under study is on the one hand determined by its tradition as a denominational school and on the other hand is undergoing a massive process of change. Central challenges arise from the changes in society in the context of secularisation and pluralisation. Firstly, these changes have an impact on the school board: the founding congregation is withdrawing, and lay people are taking over responsibility for shaping the educational institution. The traditionally Catholic staff and Christian student population are, secondly, transforming into a culturally and religiously diverse school community. The transformation phenomena require a reorientation and updating of the profile of the Catholic school. The focus is on the question what framework conditions need to be created so that lay people who assume responsibility and have a pedagogical impact at the Friesgasse Catholic School Centre can carry the inherited mission into the future in a theologically competent manner in the context of current challenges. After the researcher’s determination of her position described in the first part "Orientation", the dissertation project illuminates the kairological challenges in a second part. In the empirical-practical study, the educational institution is examined regarding the current transformations using the methodological approach of action research. The third criteriological part connects the kairological findings with the order-specific and official-church-documents on the subject of Catholic schools. In the concluding praxeological part, proposals for sustainable concepts are developed in five practical modules: the sharpening of the profile, an empowerment and relief package for employees, the formation of networks, a plurality-sensitive pastoral concept for schools as well as the creation of situation-appropriate framework conditions should enable the laity participating in Catholic schools to design Catholic schools as a place of the Church in line with time and tradition on the basis of theology.
