Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
This study, titled ‘Digital Nationalism: The Polish Diaspora and Its Use of Twitter in Times of Crisis’ presents an in-depth analysis of the social media activities of the Polish diaspora residing in the United Kingdom and Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic and the War in Ukraine. Focusing on the use of Twitter as a platform for expression and communication, this research investigates how diasporic identities engage with Twitter to convey and reinforce their understanding of nationalism. Drawing upon concepts of digital nationalism and theories of ethno-symbolism, diaspora nationalism and social identity, this thesis sheds light on the role of social media in shaping and amplifying national identity among diaspora communities in the context of global crises. The findings offer valuable insights into the dynamics of digital nationalism and its impact on the Polish digital diaspora during challenging times. In this sense, this thesis contributes to a better understanding of diaspora’s perception of nationalism and their social media usage.
