Die Arbeit untersucht die Bedeutung sozialdemokratischer Prinzipien für die Förderung und Umsetzung von lokaler sozialer Innovation am Beispiel der Stadt Wien als Stadt in sozialdemokratischer Tradition. Die Forschung soll helfen die Wechselwirkungen zwischen politischen Ideologien und sozialer Innovationen zu verstehen, um ihr Potential für die Lösung demokratischer Herausforderung bestmöglich zu verstehen. Die Forschungsfrage „Wie beeinflussen die sozialdemokratischen Prinzipien der Stadt Wien die Förderung und Implementierung von lokalen sozialen Innovationen?“ wird mit Hilfe von qualitativen Daten aus leitfadengestützten Expert:inneninterviews beantwortet. Die Interviews mit leitenden Angestellten der Stadt Wien, die in Strategie und Umsetzung sozialer Innovation involviert sind, reflektieren die verschiedenen Dimensionen von sozialer Innovation und ermöglichen damit eine Untersuchung anhand sozialdemokratischer Prinzipien. Die Ergebnisse der Arbeit zeigen eine ambivalente Rolle der sozialdemokratischen Prinzipien in der lokalen sozialen Innovation. Einerseits schaffen die gewachsenen Strukturen der sozialen Inklusion eine förderliche Grundlage für die Entwicklung von sozialer Innovation, andererseits hemmen die paternalistischen Dynamiken in der Stadt die empowernde Wirkung von bottom-up Ansätzen. Der Politik wird empfohlen mehr Risikobereitschaft zu zeigen, die Offenheit der Stadtverwaltung und Politik weiter zu fördern und eine produktive Förderlandschaft mit offeneren Kriterien zu verfolgen. Die Arbeit trägt dazu bei, das Verständnis der Verbindungen zwischen politischer Ideologie und praktischer Umsetzung sozialer Innovationen zu vertiefen und setzt Impulse für die Ausrichtung zukünftiger Strategien in diesem Bereich.

The thesis analyses the importance of social democratic principles for the promotion and implementation of local social innovation using the example of the city of Vienna as a city in the social democratic tradition. The research aims to understand the interactions between political ideologies and social innovation in order to maximise their potential for solving democratic challenges. The research question "How do the social democratic principles of the City of Vienna influence the promotion and implementation of local social innovation?" is answered with the help of qualitative data from guided expert interviews. The interviews with senior employees of the City of Vienna who are involved in the strategy and implementation of social innovation reflect the various dimensions of social innovation and thus enable an investigation based on social democratic principles. The results of the study show an ambivalent role of social democratic principles in local social innovation. On the one hand, the established structures of social inclusion create a favourable basis for the development of social innovation; on the other hand, the paternalistic dynamics in the city inhibit the empowering effect of bottom-up approaches. Politicians are recommended to show more willingness to take risks, to further promote the openness of the city administration and politics and to pursue a productive funding landscape with more open criteria. The work contributes to a deeper understanding of the links between political ideology and the practical implementation of social innovation and provides impetus for the direction of future strategies in this area.
