Abstract
(Deutsch)
Abstract
(Englisch)
Business simulation games are extensively applied for training technical, managerial and problem-solving skills, based on experiential learning standards. Academia, industry and government have embraced games as valuable tools for education, training, advertising and a multitude of objectives outside of “pure” entertainment. This work proposes a business simulation game for sustainable mobility. Nowadays, there is a multitude of ongoing discussions on the concept of sustainability. In this sense, the United Nations has come up with an agenda for sustainable development. At the base of this agenda stay 17 Sustainabe Development Goals (SDGs), representing a critical demand for action by all countries, in a worldwide partnership. Among these, our attention is directed towards the mobility and sustainable transport goals. These are mainstreamed across a number of SDGs and targets, including those connected to health, food security, economic growth, infrastructure, energy and cities and human settlements. The objective of this work is to survey the applicability and impact of business simulation games within the context of mobility and sustainable transport, to discuss and evaluate existing approaches of applying simulation games as a tool for promoting and encouraging sustainable mobility. Based on the performed research, this work introduces a new gamification model for encouraging sustainable travel and mobility. The proposal is evaluated through a use case, performed by running the simulation game on a group of people. Evaluation is performed both quantitative and qualitative. The outcome of the results implies that the developed tool was perceived with a positive attitude and has potential in supporting people make sustainable mobility decisions.
